Sadly Over-hyped
Highly Overrated But Still Good
The acting in this movie is really good.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Another Jason Statham movie of where he fights a bunch of bad guys, but that's not the only thing that impressed me. The most of the idea that impressed me is that every authority in New York city is looking for a 12 year old girl, and out of everyone,Jason's the only out of nowhere person that doesn't even know her,but is still willing to protect her from literally everybody. Safe is not the first movie i have seen of where Jason protects a child(Homefront is),but it still warms my heart that he loves to protect kids from danger with all of his strength and skills with much as he has. Another good piece of work for Jason Statham and his movies that I hope never go to waste
More is Less. Remember that. This movie is so convoluted, so overblown and so needlessly complex, it's as if someone wanted to prove they're hip to people who disrespect them any which way. The main story is so simple and yet, there's probably a hundred characters, subplots, directions and white noise, it's hard to enjoy what's really going on here. And what's really happening is a suicidal ex-super-man coincidentally encounters a kidnapped little girl who has part of a key to an elaborate plot wait, I'm trying to break this down, but there is just so much going on in my mind after seeing this, it's hard to focus. I'll try again.Ex-Super-Man Jason Statham is saved and saves a Chinese girl who is wanted by so many bad and corrupt men it's hard to think New York City isn't just made up of 100% rival gangs. That's the gist. The rest involves Jason kicking some butt, a couple of safes and twists and turns so hard to keep up with, it feels like a 12- novel series crammed into 94 minutes. I wanted to watch an action movie tonight I hadn't seen and I just adore Statham, but since the screenplay was such a kaleidoscope of a mess, it's not recommended to anyone else stumbling across this. Skip.***Final thoughts: Statham fans beware even he couldn't save this downer despite some nice fighting sequences. Heck, the Chinese girl whom we're supposed to side with doesn't even look like she wanted to be here and was just as kidnapped to perform tasks as her character she plays. Just stick with Statham classics like The Transporter (1) and The Expendables (2.)
I was looking for a movie where a down and outer overcomes the bad guys. I had heard of the Statham movies, but never watched one where he was the lone star. I had seen The Expendables, which was action hero overload. This movie was free on Prime, so I said, why not. The story line was pretty straight forward, with multiple warring factions, and Statham in the middle, having a history with all of them. Of course, he has some expert military past that is alluded to. As the story develops, he attempts to rescue himself by rescuing this little Chinese girl, Mei. Of course, this means a lot of people get killed and he does most of the killing. Statham has a pretty good screen presence, pretty cool. This movie reminded me a little of the Charles Bronson Death Wish movies, except Statham is physically much more powerful. If you want to see good kick the stuffing out of evil, with not much plot, and some exciting fighting, this will suit you fine. I wish Amazon would make other Statham movies free for Prime too - there's a very small choice at this point.
(64%) A 1990's action throwback with a "mercury rising" type plot involving a man helping a child who knows something that is putting their life at risk. Statham plays a more human character than the typical action movie, and just like Bruce Willis' movie there is some heart and a decent amount of characterisation to proceedings, but this still has plenty of its focus on shooting, driving, and fighting. The plot all-in-all is a bit too over- stuffed, and the action could have been handled a little better and steadier; although this is still a worthy entry to Jason's filmography and well and truly worth a look for action fans.
