Wonderful character development!
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
Colossal is a great movie, that is not defined by a genre, rather it blends a lot of them together. The Acting in this movie is believable, at least on a standard "movie acting" level. The scenes where the characters are drunk don't always work, which is a shame, because those scenes are important to the movie. A lot of the problems people have with it are based on them not noticing that a lot of the changes one certain character goes through are obvious, especially after rewatching the movie, where you can see it clearly and them just not enjoying the movie, which is fair. It's not a movie, that everyone will enjoy. I enjoyed it for the characters, that start as your predictable protagonists, but end up having something, not new, but still refreshing enough to feel new when you watch it. I loved all the scenes with the creatures. Some metaphors and symbolism are obvious, if you paid attention and I really don't want to be this guy who, in defense of a movie, just says "people didn't understand it", but a lot of people seemed to miss important parts of the story, while I was reading some of the reviews, all I could think of was "did they even watch this movie?". I watched this movie twice and I liked both times. It's a kind of movie you don't get everyday, the story was sometimes predictable, but even when the things you predict happen, you don't get disappointed. It's at least a solid 7/10. Nothing below that.
Come on, this is really an interesting movie about feminism and the consequences of alcoholism. I know the message sort of gets obvious at some point, but still it's a totally funny, entertaining, movie about things that matter in a very metaphoric way. 10 stars!
Is this all she's offered now? A ridiculous movie from start to finish! How did she get suckered into this trash? If you bother to watch this one hour and forty-five minute crawl through stupid; take note of the bar room fire. There must have been a sale on gas logs.
Seems every down on their luck person in the movies has a friend who can employ them!I wonder if that is Anne's personal laptop?I know something you could do... but that'd be morbid?Isn't the translator going to know?Drinking on the job? Not a good look for a bartender... Anyone actually, baring you're a sommelier.A number of things going on here. Not sure which are related to one another. What is up with his buddy? That was unexpected.Wow! This is dark now.Even creepier when you add pool leaves. Those people in the background just eating as per usual :)Points for unusual premise, but I forced myself to watch this after awhile, and I was disappointed, but boy does it get interesting.
