A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

I am almost a decade late, but here goes nothing. I have always wanted to watch this film, being a Sci-Fi and Fantasy fan and not finding enough of those movies to watch, I tend to go for adventure movies and generally like YA adaptations. So I finally gave Percy Jackson a try. I watched both movies back to back. The general issue with the fandom seems to be the fact that the movies are nothing like the books. People are legitimately angry about the fact that Annabeth is not blonde, and that Grover is black and not a ginger, or that the characters are in their late teens instead of being 12. I get it, I was a big Harry Potter fan and I would have been extremely disappointed with the films had they ignored pretty much everything I had imagined while reading the books. But, this isn't Harry Potter. It's not on the same scale. Harry Potter was a world wide phenomena. Everyone knew about it, and everyone was waiting for the movies. They knew the movies would make money and they knew every single book would get a movie. So of course they didn't start it off with characters in their teens (and actors in their 20s). Of course they stuck with the cast that looked like the characters. Of course most everything from the book was somehow featured in the film.I think most people who were fans of the books didn't even give this film a chance. On it's own, it's really not a bad movie. I've seen a lot worse. (Divergent - Maze Runner - Mortal Instruments ). This is a kid's movie. It's fun. It's entertaining. They never stay in the same place, so it's never boring. It's a road trip movie with sword fights and monsters! We know nobody is in danger, we know it's not going to be dark... so why expect those things? I guess it's asking too much of people to lower their standards, but you really don't have to. For a fun kid's adventure fantasy film, this has everything you would want. The cast is also really good, and I wasn't distracted by Alexandra Daddario not being a blonde. (I was distracted by her freaking eyes though), or none of them being 12. I'm actually glad they weren't. There's a Chaos Walking movie coming out and Tod and Viola are supposed to be 13, and that number is actually crucial to the plot but the actors are in their 20s and the characters are supposedly teenagers. This is not the first time this has happened, and it won't be the last. It's just easier to work with older actors, and the only way they can find a way to get away with it is having them play teenagers. It's still young enough so that they are kids, but the actors are not actual kids and so it saves everyone a lot of headaches. There, I said it. Percy Jackson doesn't suck. It's above average, and it's fun and light and you should give it a chance.

A teenager discovers he's the descendant of a Greek god and sets out on an adventure to settle an on-going battle between the gods. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is one of the few films that i got to see in theaters back in 2010 and to be honest i really did loved it especially the Greek Mythology and basically the whole adventure and special effects with the gods and all that. As far as perfomances go? everyone did a really good job especially Logan Lerman, Alexandria Daddario, Sean Bean, Uma Thurman and Pierce Brosnan. If you want something exactly like the book you'll hate it but on it's own is really fun although the 2nd one was better.
