Why so much hype?
Save your money for something good and enjoyable
best movie i've ever seen.
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Man Down is somewhat of a typical war drama film based on the adventures of one army marine. The film has been panned and has been criticized for being overly messy, not as dramatic and not in the typical war film. Shia Labeouf delivers a great performance in the film as he carries but overall the plot and style may seem like a letdown. There are many flashback scenes which occur and many jump scenes from scene to scene, which may seem confusing but as the ending folds, it sets everything in its place. Man Down is quite a short film which is good in its case, however more could have been added perhaps. Overall, the film was a box office flop, and appears to be forgotten. Although it may be one of those films where in a few years from now garners some sort of attention and praise from fans alike.
What a lot of people don't know, which is why I rated this movie as high as I did, is the effort Shia put into making this movie. Prior to releasing the film he had a prescreening at the base I'm stationed at (I'm active duty military). Not publicized in any way other than locally. He showed the movie and was personally there for a Q and A. He wanted feedback from real life veterans. He took into account veterans considerations on aspects of the movie he could change or take out or add in. He even wanted approval before he even felt it was right to release. The feedback was very positive. Real life veterans stood up, even getting emotional, and some broke down in tears. The consensus was that this was a movie veterans needed. Some say this was a dis to us but many felt it opened up the reality of life as a veteran and was touching a sensitive subject many actors would be opposed to touching. My hats off to Shia LeBouf that he took the time to get our approval. The film itself was good, not the greatest film. But the message was better. Kudos to Shia for working on something meaningful he believes in. Fun fact: after the Q and A an Airman got on stage to beat box while Shia LeBouf free-styled some bars for us after being pressured into it. If you haven't seen this movie I highly recommend taking the time to.
Shia pulls off an intense performance as a marine who returns home after a traumatic experience in Afghanistan, only to find his home life shattered. The exploration of his traumatization is well scripted and well acted. The film includes performances from Gary Oldman, Kate Mara, and Jai Courtney. It is well acted, well scripted and hard hitting on an emotional level. The directing and final edit leave something to be desired, however. One can see how a re-edit could have led this film to a decent showing. As it stands, it was never going to be a crowd pleaser. It is engaging and has a twist that will have you thinking about the plight of the marine. To be watched critically more than mind soothing entertainment.
Shia LaBeouf never strike me at a actors i only know him as the main character of Transformer series.None of his filmography leave any impact on me and lately he also involving with a lot of crazy stuff on newspaper so he also very bad in public eye but after read a news about his latest movie Man Down being bombed super hard at the box office and had a very low rating on IMDb so i decide to check the movie out and you guys know what? For the first time ever Shia LaBeouf truly shine in my eyes at a actors.Don't read the description because it might give you a false expectations when the movie describe as a post- apocalyptic thriller in fact it a very heartbreaking drama story about a U.S. Marine played by Shia when he go through a journey full of blood and sand just to get back with his son.The relationship with his son is the best aspect of this movie and Shia deliver the most raw and gritty performance yet in his career. The movie kinda messy at first when it often jump back and front to different time line that can really hard to follow but when you get used to it in the end when all the puzzle pieces together it very surprising and caught me off guard.I guess the main problem with this movie for me is beside Shia all the supported characters very blank
