To me, this movie is perfection.
Simply Perfect
Brilliant and touching
Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
I was initially, in the beginning parts of the movie, going to rate lower, but found the acting, and humorous (and intelligent at times) dialogue engaging. So, even though the storyline is predictable, i.e. wealthy inheritance playboy son who chases women, parties, drinks and basically is a goofball funster has an interaction with a poor divorced mom coming aboard his yacht to clean up after a party. All of which plays out to his becoming a better person. Mom & daughters benefit too. Eerily, Anna Farris reminded me of Goldie Hawn in appearance and mannerisms who, perhaps not coincidentally, appeared in the 1987 version of "Overboard", but w/the lead roles reversed.
Eugenio Derbez is completely miscast for this role- he cannot be mean or nasty enough for this story to work, he plays his part with too much comedy, it's like watching Dudley Moore in Arthur. The rest of the cast is great but unable to pull this off without a strong lead. Don't even watch this on a rainy day.
Another disgusting product of corporatism and postmodernism. They have been spewing open man-hate propaganda for 15yrs now. Sick.
Just because a film is old it does not mean it is a classic. The original Overboard got mixed reviews when it was released in 1987, only finding an audience on the video rental market. This remake is uninspired, clumsy, unfunny and boring. It certainly elevates the original version thanks to the casting of real life partners Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.Kate (Anna Faris) is a hard working single mom with three daughters. She is studying for her nurse's exam and has several jobs, one being a cleaner on a yacht. Leo (Eugenio Derbez) is an aging Mexican playboy living in his superyacht and heir to a corporate empire. After an initial frosty exchange between Kate and Leo, he refuses to pay her for her work and throws Kate off his boat. Later that night a drunk Leo falls of his yacht and gets amnesia after a knock on his head.In hospital Leo's sister does not positively identify him and falsely tells her family that he is dead. Kate meanwhile gets payback for Leo's meanness and conspires to act as Leo's wife. Once he is in her home, she makes him do household duties and go out to work. Work is something Leo has never done. However over time Leo bonds with Kate and her kids. This is a an uninspired remake which just switches gender roles. There is no chemistry between Derbez and Faris and is just a crummy film.
