How sad is this?
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Breaking In, follows a desperate mother who needs to break into a highly secured house to save her children from crooks who are also desperate to find a vault full of money hidden in the house. For me this film was okay. Like 2017's film Kidnap it shows a strong theme of mother love and the great lengths mothers would go to save their children. However, this film wasn't very strong in depicting this topic. Breaking into the house was all to easy for this mother which is disappointing since that was supposed to be a major issue in the film. Also, the film wasn't as thrilling or exciting, though towards the end the film takes a turn, though the story never really progressed during the film. I still recommend the film though there are problems with this film in particular."I'm just a mom. You have no clue what I'm capable of."-Shaun Russell, Breaking In
I love the movie Breaking In with Gabrielle Union. It shows the woman as the hero and full of strength from beginning to end. I love when she accredits her protective strength and cunningness to being a mother more so than being a woman. At the end when she's pictured cradling her kids and her husband. It was such a powerful scene because usually the woman is positioned where the man was being depicted as weak and vulnerable just waiting to be saved. I love love loved the movie. Like WOW this is what happens when woman get depicted in truth. So accurate to the strength of a woman period and all we do and are willing to do for our babies.
I thought it would be a great story with the woman as a lead......damn I was wrong. There is plenty of "B" movies out there with more action than this had. The writing was lacking, acting was not bad.
I read a low rated reviewer describing two severe actions by Gabrielle Union which he thought were so predictable except she never did the two actions, they simply don't exist in the film.I have always like Gabrielle Unioni, since her comedy Something New. Nice to see her in a different lead role. Look, out of the box we have mother, two kids and evil dudes threatening to wipe the kids out. Of course we know they are not going to slit the throats of her cute kids and we also know Gabrielle will live to be in more films. I mean, really, this is like Home Alone but with guns, knives and an 'I can't take it anymore mom'. Yes, we've seen this story many, many times and when done well with a decent cast and decent screenplay they are fun to watch. Garbrielle fits the bill in all respects. The evil gang of four including one crazed killer do a decent job. The story rolls along at a nice pace. The electronic fortified house is itself a major member of the cast and made for interesting scenes with variations of lights, music and darkness. The violent scenes were choreographed well and so all and all it was a perfect movie to watch whilst I was life cycling at home.Suspense, yes, Twists and turns, yes. Predictable, at times but to be expected when we know who the winners and losers will be at the outset. I guess I am saying one should not gripe about a movie that is by its nature somewhat predictable. If you are up for an enraged mamma vs evil killers who plan to kill her and her kids (we know this at the start when we hear 'they've seen our faces') you can kick back and enjoy the ride. It won't disapoint.
