Eddie's Million Dollar Cook Off
Eddie Ogden is his pa's pride and joy as well as the Groundhogs team's only asset as baseball talent. Then Eddie discovers a taste and talent for cuisine. Although his brothers Andy and Alex, and Pa as well as classmates enjoy his dishes, they only mock cooking, so he arranges and 'accidental' registration for him and two friends in Home Economics. Only Eddie -secretly again- and nerdy shrew Bridget Simons enter a national cooking competition for school-kids. Ma finds out and to his surprise proves supportive, as well as the teacher, who once won the competition herself.

It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Honestly, I never cared for the movies produced by the modern Disney channel (I think they're calling it Zoog? Whatever that means.). In fact, I haven't really liked most of the more recent theatrical films from the Disney company. They seem to have gone way downhill since Walt died, though there have been signs that they are returning to form lately. Movies like Sky High, Pirates, and even The Game Plan was a minor improvement over the countless number of sub-par attempts they have been making since the late 80's. And now we have this. Yet another family sports comedy featuring a kid as the lead, just another sandlot wannabe. Or is it? Yes, the plot is cliché and tired, and yes, the film itself is endlessly predictable--especially how it ends. But somehow it manages to pull itself away from what seemed like inevitable mediocrity. The film itself had a sort of charm to it that really added to the viewer's enjoyment of what would be an otherwise pointless mess of cliché. That and Taylor Ball, best known for playing the part of Brian on the sitcom Still Standing. He times his lines just well enough that he actually makes some rather silly lines of dialog work. He manages to make a character out of one of the most tired cliché vehicles in the book. and for that, I praise him. Taylor Ball saved this movie from being a total failure. It is a wonder why he doesn't get more work.-Ryan out.
I sat down the other night to watch this with my kids because they wanted to watch it. It's a pretty good movie with some young stars. The movie tells about Eddie who like most teens, grows up with some pretty close friends. He then finds out he has a gift. The gift of cooking! The movie portrays people that cook are either different or a girl. We all know that's not true! Eddie has a hard time trying to figure out this gift because he is stuck between baseball, which his dad forces him to play because he's the coach, and his "passion" for cooking! I liked seeing Bobby Flay in this movie. Can't think of anyone else that would be good for that part! I also like the other girl who is Eddie's "rival" in the kitchen.
A typical upbeat kids movie but with a notable different message. The REAL story is that our hero, 14 year old Eddie comes out. The jock goes through all of the angst, guilt, rejection and fear that any 14 year old boy would have upon realizing he was "different." However, Disney, in their infinite wisdom, super sanitizes the story so that Eddie comes out as a CHEF instead of GAY. I wont criticize it too much because even this would have been a big stretch for Hollywood five years ago. Cute and entertaining if you don't have much to do. CMC, Sherman Oaks, CA
I have seen, watched, listened, taped and have been touched by this movie. I watch it over and over again, i make my friends and family watch it and they all loved it. It even brought a tear to my mother's eyes, ok, well it brought alot of tears to my mother's eyes. But what i m trying to tell u is that if u watch this movie, not only with your eyes but with your heart, u will be as touched as i have been and will alway be by this movie. Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-Off was and inspiration to me and i hope it has been or will make u feel the same way i felt.
