Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies

I can't be 100% sure, but I may have been part of the $5 million gross when Megaforce was released in 1982. It seems like something I would have been standing in line to see. I'm sure I didn't care for it with the horrible plot, ridiculously silly futuristic vehicles, and lame attempts at comedy. Now, however, I find it terribly entertaining. It's filled with more 80s cheesy goodness than one movie should have a right to.Megaforce stars Barry Bostwick as Commander Ace Hunter, the leader of a quick deployment special force. He is a total hoot throughout the film and looks like he's having a blast. He's in on the joke - none of this is to be taken seriously. And how could you take Hunter seriously with perfect blown dried hair and an outfit that looks like he's headed to an Olivia Newton John video shoot. His jokes and one-liners are grown-worthy, but in a good way. He's the most non-military commander put on film. Bostwisk is joined by the scene-chewing Edward Mulhare and Persis Khambatta and Michael Beck, neither of whom seem to realize this thing is a mess and play it straight. Finally, the main cast is rounded out by one of my favs, Henry Silva. He looks like he's having a lot of fun playing the crazed Duke Guerera. I admit that the first 30 minutes or so can be a bit dry. There's a lot of talking about stuff that doesn't make sense and that no one really cares about. We're here for the futuristic military vehicles (dune buggies and motorcycles with a cheap fiberglass overlay), the explosions (and there are plenty of those), and the laughable special effects (the flying motorcycle must be seen to be believed - one of the most ludicrous looking things I've ever seen). This is what makes Megaforce so much fun. I know that a movie like Megaforce isn't for everyone. I'm not ever sure I enjoy the way director Hal Needham of Smokey and the Bandit fame intended. But enjoy it I do. A 7/10 from me.

Introducing a skinny action hero who looks like he wandered off from a Bee Gees tribute act. He and his troops gad about on bikes and dune buggies. They shoot at things that explode even when they are not hit.Things go bang. Nobody appears to die. Clunky 'buddy' dialogue is exchanged. Things go bang again. The hero's hair remains unruffled.Persis Khambatta looks lovely (as always) although she struggles with the dialogue. The baddie chews the scenery in the approved manner. Michael Beck's career continues the downward slide that started after his excellent performance in 'The Warriors'. In this movie, his character is a bit like Kevin Bacon's from 'Tremors', only in a not very good way.Did I mention that things go bang? Ace Hunter's teeth outshine even his tight gold lamé jumpsuit. Thumbs are kissed. And at least the blue-screen flying scene is more convincing than the ones in 'Pumaman'.The whole thing is an absolute hoot, and everyone looked like they had great fun making it. For those who are too young to remember the Eighties, this film will educate you about that shiniest of decades.

In all honesty, this was a movie with some real great potential. It could had actually really been a decent movie, if it had only an actual script to work with. This movie is totally lame and silly but almost in a good way. It has so much cult potential in it with its awesome main concept, great weapons and vehicles and over-the-top silly action, that defies all logic. It makes the movie real fun to watch but at the same time it also remains simply an horrible one. It's literally a laughable bad movie, which is not just due to its simplistic story and lame characters and dialog but also because of the way how it looks. I'm not even talking about Ace Hunter's heroic costume and haircut but more about the overall visual look of this movie, that is horribly cheap. The use of the blue-screen is often real laughable and some of the action is just totally insane, in a true laughable way, without giving anything away about it. Seems like this movie got also actually aimed toward kids, also judging by its action. The movie is at least being very childish and simplistic. But really, I could had been OK with all this. This movie would had been a perfect, campy, science-fiction, action, cult-classic if only it had a half decent story in it. Seriously, I can't even tell what this movie is about and it's not like this is being a very complicated movie. It's just about nothing really and it only seems to rely on its main concept of having Megaforce, battling and blasting away a bunch of bad guys. But why, how and who? I have no idea about that really. Granted that I was not alway paying much attention but that was because the movie could hardly hold my interest. It's still a movie you could have a fun time with watching because of how bad and silly it can all get but still it remains a huge waste and shame that they didn't do any more and anything better with its potentially great and awesome concept.3/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/
