Beautiful, moving film.
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
Antonio Banderas is great in this film, I don't get to see him in a lot these days, but he was good in this.Banderas plays Paul, a struggling novel writer who lives in a cabin in the woods or at least in a rural area in the country. One day, he drives along and picks up a seemingly average hitcher named Jack walking along, and decides in good faith to give him a lift to wherever he needs to go.The man seems friendly and needs a place to stay for the night, at Paul's cabin, Jack sees Paul's manuscript and expresses interest in helping Paul write on the script and whatever else Paul needs done around the cabin during his stay. Just then, Paul's world is turned upside down for the worst!I only got to see this at least once but I'm surprised I can still remember it pretty well, all though I'm a little fuzzy on the way things played out. I don't what to give away the twists in this, because the twists are very good and unpredictable.Johnathon Rhys Meyers is great as the mysterious Jack as well as Piper Parabo who plays Paul's associate in business.Overall a good unpredictable thriller that was refreshingly original, at least in concept. I would defiantly see this again, it is, I think, a re-watchable film at best.I give this a 7/10. Antonio Bandaras is very good with an equally good supporting cast. Highly recommended.
I have read what all the Big critics had to say, and me just a first time watcher say this. Its very suspenseful !! I found myself going back over it to see clues I missed the first time. After all said and done I think the "twists" were pretty good. The one thing that anyone fails to talk about was the fact that while the "writer" was sitting at his desk he hears a woman scream then a gun shot. If he is the Killer how was he at two places at once? Secondly the "bad guy" would not let the writer out of his sight ... So when could the writer ever leave the house to commit such a crime? I like when a movie leaves me a bit baffled and I have to go back to see clues I may have missed. So to the Big Critics you tore up this film but really it was quite exciting to watch and fun to try and figure out. .
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers mastered the American accent surprisingly well. Interesting plot that sucks the viewer in. The plot messed with my head through the ending. Even when the screen cut to black before final credits, I was expecting another twist. If you are a fan of Criminal Minds or How to Get Away With Murder, you'll enjoy this movie.
It was a little surprise film, but not that great. I really enjoyed it. It was thrilling, suspense and fast paced storytelling. I usually like this type of flicks. If you too prefer entertainment over a masterpiece, then you would enjoy it as well. Only the beginning was slow, but once the concept of the film ignited, it was a non-stop entertainment. So the later parts are like between the two characters that took place in an isolated place. A great setting and with all the development, the film totally gets you.A struggling alcoholic writer who got rescued by a stranger at a diner, invites him to the home for the stormy night ahead. Later the stranger decides to help him out with his writing, so his stay extends. With talking to each other, the writer comes to know what kind of person he's brought into his house. His agenda ires the stranger and hence a conflict begins between them. The rest of the film is to disclose who ends where with a twist at the end. When the second act begins, that's when your guessing game starts. At the end of that section, I had in my mind that at least 4 to 5 possible paths the story could head. With that kind of option, who won't enjoy such film. Whatever I predicted, that did not happen. That's another reason why I liked it. The twist was good, and so the performances by Jonathan Rhye Meyers and Antonio Banderas. BUT when all was going well, the end scene before the credits, disappointed me. It should have not been in the film at all. That's why I did not like 'Prince of Persia' too. Apart from that final 10 seconds, it was a good film.7/10
