As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Blistering performances.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
I was watching something interesting on another channel and went to this during unfortunately long and frequent commercials. I was only drawn to it because I was bewildered how anyone could possibly make and release a movie of such poor quality. It was like watching a real-life train wreck. The acting was atrocious. The special effects were so amateurish as to be universally laughable, especially the supposed windshield hits from rearward gunfire. The plot was something that might have been produced by low-functioning nine-year-old. This had to be one of the most ridiculous movies I've ever seen. There was not a single 30-second segment I watched that was incapable of producing a violent emetic reflex.
...I gotta admit, the CGI took me out of the story pretty frequently. That is the most ridiculous pyramid I have ever seen.Overall, though, I enjoyed it. Misha Collins hits the archetype of 'snarky, discredited genius' perfectly (considering this is the only other role I've seen him in outside of his roles on Supernatural), with Jacob Glaser's bull-headed insistence upon the truth. The lead actress was not as memorable, however, although I didn't mind particularly about the half-hearted attempt at implied romance toward the end -- which, in itself, is a feat for any movie, since I don't care for most romance plots. I rather enjoyed seeing it rushed through and not really touched on. The cultist archaeologist was one-dimensional, admittedly, but as far as B-Movies go, I'd kind of been expecting that. The mole was probably the one thing that honestly surprised me -- though that was probably because the first time I saw the film, I showed up about half an hour before the film ended. As for plot, can I just say that if I never hear the word 'electromagnetic' again, it will be too soon. It's like The Day After Tomorrow's supercooled air from the troposphere, but with a much smaller budget and more lightning effects. And I never want to see the pyramids at Giza destroyed in another movie, ever. Though, I believe that if the film had been taken on by a studio that wasn't aiming to squish a movie into 90 made-for-TV-minutes, the ideas could have made for an awesome plot. Finally, because it needs to be said: It was a robot head.
I watched this because I had run out of things to watch and it had a funny review on another site. It actually has a fairly good story line, if only there was more money for it, it would have been good. One thing that is a little confusing is that they are at Stonehenge, which actually does not look like Stonehenge and they are meant to be in England but all the English scientists and the English army are all have American accents and have American syntax. But what confused me is that occasionally they were drinking tea - so they must have been English. But then they were drinking tea from glass mugs, so maybe they weren't.I am confused. It is well worth a watch!
The story in it self could have potential, but did not quite do it for me.First of all, where was the body discovered? I did not see that any archeologists found any human remains. And how did the surveillancecamera mounted on top of the Stonehenge survive the EMP's, when it manage to drain the power of two cars later in the film? To many sloppy mistakes in the script concerning these minor details.I also think that there were too many clichés about the American military and that the commanders must be irrational and close to stupid to lead the most powerful militaryforce in the world. I agree with some others in here that the acting sometimes were good, but also very bad by some actors as well. I give the movie a plus for trying as hard as possible to sty serious throughout the movie.
