Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
I remember watching this quite a few years ago and enjoying it and decided to re-watch it again to see if I still did. It's an interesting idea and one that is executed very well. The plot is easy to follow and the fast paced script keeps things moving along nicely. There is plenty of suspense as the student plot to get higher grades spins out of control. The acting is mainly just passable apart from the always excellent Matthew Lillard who always plays the slightly maniacal jerk role so brilliantly and and there is an early appearance for the gorgeous Keri Russell. There is a great twist ending which along with Lillard's performance elevates this film above average for it's genre. This is not a great film by any means but it is very entertaining and well worth watching if you're at a loose end.
I have just finished watching this movie. Sounded good so I thought I would see it. I will never regret it. This movie has a very good script and the acting is great. This could be one of Matt Lillard's best movies. This movie starts out when Tim (Matt Lillard) and his roommate Chris find out if their roommate commits suicide, you automatically get a 4.0. So they murder their roommate and make it look like a suicide. Finally, all the events lead up to the ending of the movie. I have to say this is the best and most clever and shocking ending I have ever seen. I would HIGHLY recommend seeing this movie. I give Dead Man's Curve: 9/10, or a 4.5/5.
The plot is based on the Urban Myth that the roommates of college student that commits suicide automatically get given straight A's to ameliorate the trauma of the incident. So two students get together to murder their roommate and pass it off as a suicide just so that they can claim their top grades. This film was billed on my TV station as a black comedy; and given the basic plot there was a lot of potential for some good dark humor. Sadly the film was lacking in nearly all departments - there's no humor to speak of, the plot is made uninteresting, and the acting is forgettable. The main characters are intensely irritating (esp. Matthew Lillard), and the movie constantly grates. As for the ending, I didn't quite manage get that far so sadly I must have missed the "complex twisting plot". All in all this movie managed to hit nearly all the wrong notes with me; it's too much of a teen movie for my liking, and too much of a psychological thriller, and really not nearly enough of the black comedy.
This is another 'get-on-in-the-teen-slasher-movie' kind of movie. The twist are reasonably clever up to a point. The lead guy, Matthew Lillard is never going to be as funny as (the good) Jim Carrey, as A-class as Tom Cruise so is only left to be as annoying as Tom Green but that would be difficult even for this guy. Overall, much of the same. Nothing special, Nothing offensively bad but just a bit boring really because the script had no spark whatsoever. 6/10
