Uncensored 1997 took place on March 16, 1997 from the North Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, South Carolina. The concept of Uncensored was that each match on the card was ostensibly unsanctioned, meaning they were not subject to the normal rules of WCW-sanctioned wrestling matches. The main event was Team nWo (Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Hollywood Hogan & Randy Savage) versus Team Piper (Roddy Piper, Chris Benoit, Steve McMichael & Jeff Jarrett) versus Team WCW (Lec Luger, The Giant & Scott Steiner) in a Triangle Elimination Match. Also at the event, Prince Iaukea defended the WCW World Televsion Championship against Rey Mysterio, Jr. (again), Public Enemy wrestled Harlem Heat in a Texas Tornado match, Buff Bagwell faced Scotty Rigs in a Strap match, Glacier fought Mortis, Psychosis was matched against Ultimo Dragon, and Eddie Gurrero defended the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship against Dean Malenko.

A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

A lot can be said about the impact this PPV had by the fact that the WWE never attempted it (under that title, I mean) again! There are too many promos, flashbacks and story lines at the expense of wrestling, and out of the 7 matches only 1 (the last) really feels like part of a bigger event like a PPV instead of something you could see every week, and even that one match has no proper ending! For the record, the matches are: Drew McIntyre vs. Kofi Kingston for the IC title Alicia Fox vs. Gail Kim vs. Eve Torres vs. Maryse (this was very disappointing, these women have so much more potential) Chris Jericho vs. Evan Bourne (probably the best)Big Show vs. Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk vs. Jack Swagger for the World Heavyweight Title (they build up Kane's "revenge" a lot for this, so you know he is going to appear, but it's a pathetic "revenge")The Miz vs. R-Truth for the US titleThe Hart Dynasty vs. The Usos and TaminaCena vs. Orton vs. Edge vs. Sheamus for the WWE title (amusing dueling chants from the crowd ("Cena sucks" - "Let's Go Cena"!))None of the matches are outright bad, but none are match of the year candidates, either.
