Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

Many people think that you can be David Lynch by just switching from real to imagined characters and making a complete u-turn with the story in the middle. If there is something worth in this movie; is to show that twisting things requires more imagination, better writing and a certain logic. Things the team behind this movie forget to add in its proper way. It is a pity because it starts interesting, but almost immediately things become absurd just to after over an hour; change the movie to a complete different direction; leaving many things not ever properly explained. In brief; do not lose your time. There are far better things to do

This film ended up being better than I expected with: the noir aspect; the clues that seem to not put pieces together; the plot twists all the way through to the end; and like another reviewer mentioned. you're left still trying to fit it all together after the film is finished. The dialogue was paced so that the viewer had time to read the captioning, and the captioning wasn't jumbled by trying to catch extraneous dialogue--these combine to create good scripting and editing. Typical of noir, the characters were pretty much one dimensional, but I thought the acting was excellent for the plot and tone.I really liked the plot of this film as it was something out of the predictable. I'm finding that venturing into the lesser trod path can be a well-spent 105 minutes!

The Vanished Elephant finally arrives to the theater, a very interesting proposal that only with the title you feel the urge to find out more. Being Peruvian, every time there is a new premier local production, obviously I am keen to know which again has our cinema to give ourselves. In a country where this industry is not too developed, I feel that things are starting to change a few, the level of The Vanished Elephant shows that, and alter a bit the last cycle of Peruvian films that had been occurring, a couple of comedies and a couple of horror movies, for a change genres is something very interesting, By the way very good the previous posters. This movie requires a spectator extremely active and attentive to the film; that of a few go by joining the parts, because in my opinion the film gets a bit complicated when it seemed that was understanding all, is perhaps the part of ecstasy more however it is also where things become somewhat Weise, perhaps the script could reread once more. The character that interprets Salvador del Solar in my opinion does not end of click with the viewer, since neither is managed with large variations in the aesthetics I can't find great things but Icannot deny that their production values are high. Anyway, this film that has proceedings rather irregular and do not want to go into external comparisons ... is the charismatic Tatiana Astengo with the role of the prosecutor Sánchez, who has a very strange relationship with Edo Celeste, is also fought Caceres and we can say he is the best in terms of performances and once more Carlos Carlin, which gives me curiosity with the simple fact of return to be called "Tony". Then there is the other side where the two Colombians that round out the cast and i am talking about Angie Cepeda and Andres Parra remembered and known the second surely and more than anything else by his character in the series Pablo Escobar "El Patron Del Mal" (2012). And finally we've the loss girlfriend starring Vanessa Saba, I think they could have done something more interesting, even though the script does not provide too much in her case. In conclusion Javier Fuentes-León gives us something different, a meticulous history and entertaining, there is no doubt that we are faced with a proposal pretty nifty though confusing, tangled and somewhat complicated, but what more could you applaud is the fact that it took several risks and that you can always be worthy of recognition and even more if the end result is positive. A quite acceptable film and I left with the feeling of overcoming, of wanting to do something different, to create things with more capacity, yes, that's The Vanished Elephant that although isn't a masterpiece, is a very acceptable film that does not lack for entertainment.

I don't usually review movies as I'm better at watching them than writing about them. However, I saw this last night at TIFF and since there's nothing here I thought I'd start things off.The film was shot in Peru, the director's original home, and tries as much as possible to capture that noir look. It's a nice film to watch, and the plot is interesting and leaves you trying to fit everything together in your head after the movie's complete. I thought the acting wasn't anything to write home about, but was perfectly fine for this movie. Overall: 8/10. I'd recommend it.
