The Christmas Train
Forced to take the intercontinental trip to Los Angeles by train, and determined to chronicle his adventure, disillusioned journalist Tom Langdon finds himself westbound with a variety of characters. Really Surprised!
Let's be realistic.
Blistering performances.
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Ever see two people together and you think, "They just don't look right together." That is our lead characters. Kimberly Williams-Paisley is totally a hot babe in a Sandra Bullock in her prime kind of way. She carries the movie. But this Mulrobey guy is tough to look at when he is on screen. He has something like John Kerry hair...way to thick and big. Danny Glover...well, is Danny Glover. If you want to see his best work, I recommend..The Saint of Fort Washington. I can live with the script. Wasn't that bad.
This movie was nothing like the book. Sorry, but If I didn't read the book, maybe I could deal with Hallmark and put up with the heavy sighs and "pregnant" pauses during the movie. The acting is generally OK and the movie is worth watching, but for me, I was disappointed. In addition, the ending left me wondering, huh, is this it?
Only reason for writing this review today is because in one of the scenes they stop in a town called La Junta, Co. now I'm born and raised in that neck of the woods and i sure can't remember being able to see mountains from La junta. If you would like to know La Junta is a small town located in the Arkansas valley. It is a very rural community and a main train depot on the plains.
I just finished watching the premier of Hallmark Hall of Fame's "The Christmas Train". It was a sweet story, with a well crafted script. The main 4 leads were perfectly cast. Joan Cusack, while always a little bit corky, had me smiling throughout the whole film. The back and forth between the films love interests (Kimberly and Dermot) was quite charming. It was fun to watch how Danny Glover brought out the best in his co-stars. While the parallel side mystery, kept me engaged. The only real issue I had, was that this film had a tendency to cut short quite a few scenes. Which also gave way to a few pacing issues. There were a couple times I found myself wondering, "did I miss something?" and "how did we get here?" Yet, even with these flaws, I still found "The Christmas Train" to be an enjoyable ride!
