A Disappointing Continuation
Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
This movie tells an amusing if somewhat muddled story, and the acting really is pretty bad -- compared to the usual slick Hollywood stuff. But let's face it, lesbian-oriented films seem to range from low-mediocre to atrocious, so put in the context of the existing art, April's Shower starts to seem a lot better than low-end.I don't think there was a single polished actor in the bunch. They all over-dramatized or used fakey facial expressions or just plain got things wrong at times. There were so many relationship twists and flip-flop couplings/decouplings of lesbians and heteros and bisexuals alike that I found myself a bit confused at the end, but I did have fun watching all the mating dances unfold. Be prepared for some plot turns that seem precipitous; either the author left out bits of bridging text here and there or too many scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. If you want to watch this one, try a little experiment: Pretend you are at an amateur production of a play, perhaps put on by your local junior college. It does make the performances feel a lot more plausible.
Bad B movie that seems to have been funded by one of the lead actors. Send them all to acting school. The money would have been better spent on feeding the homeless. The plot has been done to death and the actors know nothing about transitions. Not ready for prime time players. This film was created to stroke an ego of an actress that can not get hired in real films created by studios. This film proves you can not sleep your way into the acting world. The ending is predictable, I feel sorry for the editor who was forced to cut away from the actor who was speaking because they were so bad and the reaction from the other actor was better.
Im not exactly amazing at reviews so I'm just going to bullet point.. -horrendous plot (very jumpy, no build up, kinda just threw plot out there half way through -crap acting (very staged, no chemistry) -terrible character personalities (the movie didn't give you anytime to connect to the characters, you know little about and its surfacy, and i actually found all the characters annoying) -the worst sub-stories ever ( a lesbian painter who start off completely in love with a women, then wants the pizza boy. Paulie who just got dumped, 2 weeks before his marriage, for another women.. then gets with strange blonde women in the toilet? the mum who cant accept her daughter being gay, for all of about two seconds.. and SO many more) -static camera work, and the worst sets and dresses ever... cheap and really not funny I usually have no problem with small productions and sometimes that actually a lot better and more creative, but this was pure rubbish, uninspiring and boring. After 30 minutes i struggled to continue sitting through it.
I enjoyed the movie. I'll just say that from the start. As other reviewers have stated, it is a bit convoluted and some of the acting was scary bad. (the character of Kelly and the Spanish dancer come to mind). April's mother certainly took the express-lane to attitude change. I can think of better lesbian-themed comedies. "Imagine Me & You", "Chutney Popcorn", & "It's in the Water" come immediately to mind. However, I've also seen far worse ones and I will say that even though I bought it blind, I don't feel that I wasted my $5 or that it'll be taking up space on my shelf w/o reason. I'll likely watch it over now and again. Expect roughly 98 minutes of entertainment and you'll not be disappointed. Expect striking social commentary or high art and you will. Try not to wince at the bad acting, they're at least the exception.
