APEX: The Story of the Hypercar

7.3
2016 1 hr 25 min Documentary

Rocket science meets the auto industry as "APEX" follows a thread that starts in the design studios and R&D labs where these "fighter jets of the street" are created, and leads to a perilous racetrack in Germany where drivers can reach new heights of speed and performance -- if they dare. Equal parts human drama and speed, "APEX" follows Swedish entrepreneur Christian von Koenigsegg, a lifelong sports car enthusiast on a personal quest to build a "mega" car whose golden ratio defies all expectations for a hypercar's velocity and power, while competing against the biggest names in motorsports for space on the world stage. With insights from top engineers and designers, "APEX" pulls back the curtain on the top-secret development facilities at Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren and Pagani, where awe-inspiring hypercars are imagined and built, and puts you inches from the action, as top drivers shake down the latest hypercars, flat-out on some of the world's greatest racetracks.

it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

My Personal Rating - 6.8/10Obviously this documentary is made for Car People and it's purely focused about cars and their history. The ones that are interested behind the cars especially Koenigsegg that has interesting story behind them and it's founder and yes they are my most favorite Car Manafacturer in Automotive World. It also includes interviews with Chris Harris , Horacio Pagani which i found interesting too. It's just worth to watch it if you are interested in those person i mentioned.Pros: Interesting Story Behind Koenigsegg Decent CinematographyInterviews From Chris Harris and Horacio Pagani and Christian Koenigsegg himself and more. Cons:Only Focused On Car People More Focused on Koenigsegg Than Other ManafacturersRating On Each AspectCinematography: 7/10Atmosphere: 6/10Dialogue: 7/10

I am used to see so much car-related material on TV/streaming/internet etc. that I have gotten a bit critical of what I am about to spend my time on watching. There's just so much junk out there. Luckily there's also documentaries/shows/clips that IS worth spending time watching, and "Apex: The Story of the Hypercar" is definitely one of them. Interesting from start to end, with beautiful pictures of fantastic cars and interviews with fascinating, interesting and inspiring people. Throughout the documentary you'll get a little bit closer to the major hypercar manufacturers, but as a red line it follows the story of Koenigsegg, whom you'll get to know the best. Not giving it a 10 score rating only because I think it should be a longer, even more "in depth", documentary.

Little surprised to see 1 user comment. This deserves a wider audience and more TLC. Stumbled into this little gem on Netflix. I am not an ardent car nerd but I was hooked on this intimate insight into the world of hyper cars. The close ups on the cars are almost erotic in its intensity and the pacing is very well managed. Ideally you wan to get together with some fans of F1 and cars to really enjoy this. They pay special attention to Koenigsegg and give the viewer a bonus look into the racetracks of legend in Europe (esp Nurburgring)Totally worth the investment in time.

I watched it without any expectations and have to say, you get some real entertainment here.In a nutshell, it explores three car manufacturers building the next big thing. The ultimate street legal racing machine. It does not go too deep into the details, but its very interesting to see how the people behind such projects think and act.In a world overblown with content, such pieces of art are the things that stand out.A little downside: Some of the commentary from the interviewed guys are kind of mediocre, but it does not affect the overall experience. If you are into cars or motor sports in general, or just a fan of visually pleasuring cinematography that's built upon a process of design thinking, you won't regret a look.
