If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
I usually don't like the average Christmas TV movie fare, but this one I managed to sit through to the end.The script, characterisation and acting was good, and I liked the ludicrous comic characters. Many comedies are just too serious.About three quarters of the way through I feel it lost its way: the whole "girl who needs a heart transplant" sub-plot is just too hackneyed and sentimental, and Jolie runs around giving no indication that she is at all ill.I didn't find the ending at all satisfying, they just seemed to want to wrap it up as soon as possible.
