Henry Gamble's Birthday Party
Henry Gamble's Birthday Party takes place over 24 hours at the birthday pool party of 17-year-old preacher's kid Henry Gamble. The party guests include adults and teenagers from his church, as well as Henry's "secular" friends, including the closeted young Logan, who has eyes for Henry.

It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Unwatchable piece of excrement.I am puzzled about who made this movie and why? Is it supposed to be somehow entertaining (and if so, to whom)? Enlightening (ditto)? Somewhere between takes of (mostly) attractive young people in a pool for so long its amazing their skin isn't shriveled beyond recognition, the idea of having a plot or telling a story got lost. Even creating a coherent atmosphere quickly goes missing. All that's left is stereotypical Christian yammering with such original lines as "Hate the sin, love the sinner." And - gasp! - hiding wine-in-a-cardboard-box under the kitchen sink and - gasp! - drinking it! And don't let the insanely-overemphasized gay angle fool you: it account for about two minutes.Go forth and seek redemption: watch a decent film made for adults with brains. Don't waste the 82 minutes of which this mess can rob you unless you are really quick on the fast-forward button.
It seems that Mr. Cone has seen too many movies he liked because he is trying to use camera angles that seem to make no sense what so ever. I mean... interesting they are but that is all about them. To start a movie with the conversation about the size of the d**k without having anything to start from in the first place, to me is porn. 'Wannabe' art but ends up being porn. And that's bad enough. But when you involve actors or 'wannabe' actors in it then I can only think the director has a hidden message that the only person to have access to... might be just himself. I truly hope this is not true! I truly hope the actors or the team, at least, know about this message. If this is not the case then Mr. Cone does movies to be paid for. And my questions is: what happened with Mr. Cone we know from 'Wise kids'? Was that a mistaken-art-success? Because we see there as well the 'Mr. Cone wannabe director' but he shows love for the script and for the characters and building of the characters. He shows love for the plots and pure courage in creating them! Where did all that go?The story of the movie: the birthday of a Christian teenage. The rest of the story is so incoherent that only Mr. Cone might be able to put it here but I am not sure about that either, now that the movie is out. I have a special sensibility for the collaboration between gay-Christian themes. And of course, there is a certain conservative respect that has to come with this collaboration. Which existed in the aforementioned 'Wise kids' movie. I have no clue what happened with this here either. The respect for the conservative Christianism disappeared. There is a feeling that covers the movie and is very exaggerated in some small parts of it: that feeling is 'the bad is coming'! And indeed, it comes!
Going strictly by the description on this site, I figured it would be AT LEAST risqué, I mean we all know they don't use real under 18 for any movie like this anyway, so I figured it would be compelling and visually stimulating.I watched the whole movie and I have no idea what points the writers were trying to make. I am sure they didn't know either. I mean, if you are going to make a film with faith and homosexuality, don't you have to have a side?? Just for good measure they take the time to make a guy who supposedly likes the almost legal boys look like a pathetic loser. I guess he is supposed to be a pedophile?? This movie hints at a lot of things and then goes in another direction, it is complete and utter trash. The writing is erratic and the acting isn't much better.
It's Henry Gamble's 17th birthday and preacher daddy want to have a memorable birthday party! After this party nobody is going to forget Henry Gamble's 17th birthday. Here's the plot - the movie opens with Henry and a male friend in bed talking about 'dick size' and Henry is very interested in this topic. Why they were in bed together is never explained. They go to breakfast and dear ole' preacher dad is more interested in getting the party going than Henry. That afternoon Henry's friends and the parents friends slowly show up and the party is on.The young'uns all go for the pool and the parents sit on the terrace and exclaim how awful it is that the girls are so scantily dressed! (The writers must have forgotten it is the 16th year of the 21st Century) Now all these teens are unsure if Jesus likes everybody or not because one guy is openly gay and black! Jesus might not like this but who cares lets party! So Henry's preacher dad finds the wine and starts his own personal communion with Jesus and his wife isn't too happy about this. In the meantime one of the girls goes on a screech fest at her boyfriend and she runs around the neighborhood and a guy named Logan goes to the bathroom and takes a razor blade to his face! The setting is lavish! The father of Henry is a minister (keep that in mind) and his house is very grand indeed with a big pool and stone terrace and steps. The inside of the house is worthy of a House Beautiful layout. For a preacher he's done very well for himself! At movies end Henry has the gay black guy in bed with him and they are talking 'dick size'. The end!WTF??
