Looking for Alibrandi
Josie Alibrandi has a lot to deal with right now. She’s 17, got the dreaded H.S.C. in front of her, and the boy of her dreams seems completely out of reach. Then there’s that other problem. She’s a wog. Sure, it’s where Josie comes from, but it’s not where she feels she belongs. In fact, Josie doesn’t know where she belongs. With her Nonna in one ear talking about the old country and the stuck-up girls at her school telling her she’s an outsider, it’s no wonder. This year, however, everything is going to change. Josie will let loose, face her fears, uncover secrets - even discover the true identity of her father. It’s going to be a year when Josie finally finds out where she belongs.

Very well executed
a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
well..i read the book so many times....and i loved it...and when i saw the movie...i was so disappointed..and sad..i get its a low budget movie.but....there are so many different parts...the movie is so empty and short..they have cut so many parts....i mean..the book wasn't 300 pages..its was a normal book..why didn't they include all the things in the movie>?? and the characters are so not a like as they are described in the book..! anyways it was worth watching it...but not more than once.I would love if someone would remake this movie..with other actors..and to do it exactly like in the book...i think people would enjoy it more!
There are not many great Australian films, but this one - Looking For Alibrandi - was quite good. It probably had an advantage to it's goodness as the author herself Melina Marchetta actually wrote the screenplay.Though the movie is not exactly the same as the novel, the movie is filled with many great moments that are quite funny, and scenes that are dramatic. It is a must-see for anyone that has read her novel, and others who haven't.I gave this movie eight out of ten stars, because there are some scenes in the movie (not most of it, just a few) when you wonder why Melina wrote this scene into the screenplay, and it gets confusing. All in all, it is not your average Australian movie - that are always plain and boring - it is excellent, and I think that they got great actors and actresses to bring the characters to life such as the main character who plays Josie, Pia Miranda.
I think this is one of my Favourite Australian movies.i loved this movie it was easy to relate to, well directed and Pia was great as the main character. This movie was quiet sad at times and i cried like a baby. BUt it had sum beautiful moments that just make you smile. I really liked Kick Gurry especially his little speech, and he is so drop dead gorgeous . I also read the book after i saw the movie and i recommend that too. the only thing i wish was different is that there would be a sequel but its too late now.i would recommend this to especially teenage girls, but females and most guys would love this movie. anyway 10 thumbs up
All though i found the movie entertaining at time's,I don't think the story was well written,as the outcome was very predictable.I found the character Josie to be very selfish and wanted everything to revolve around herself such as her being against her mother trying to be happy and make a life for her self.Towards the end of the movie i was pleased to see That she learned not to judge people by there appearance alone.I was happy to see that Josie realized that John Bartin was suicidal and wasn't the strong confident person she thought he was and gave Jacob a chance
