The Cheese Mites
A gentleman is here shown partaking of a little lunch of bread and cheese, and occasionally is seen to glance at his morning paper through a reading glass. He suddenly notices that the cheese is a little out of the ordinary, and examines it with his glass. To his horror, he finds it to be alive with mites, and, in disgust, leaves the table. Hundreds of mites resembling crabs are seen scurrying in all directions. A wonderful picture and a subject hitherto unthought of in animated photography. Notable for being the first science film made for the general public.(IMDB)

A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

"Tee for Two" is an American cartoon from 1945, so this one is already over 70 years old, from the last year of WWII, and this one is another Hanna Barbera production by MGM and here we have of course another Tom and Jerry short film. No dogs or owners in here this time as Tom is humanized again playing golf despite being a cat, but when Jerry resides in the hole Tom wants to get the ball in, chaos ensues. And said chaos includes a little freshly-hatched bird who is far from a rookie though and a swarm of bees who all go up against Tom. There is no intention to eat in here as you would expect from a cat&mouse cartoon, another reference to humanization. Jerry is not too important in here as he really only fight through proxies most of the time against Tom. The golf ball eye-painting scene was fairly funny though I guess. Eventually Tom gets it almost too much here as he did not know he was hitting an egg and the bee attack scene is also almost a bit too violent. Poor cat, who at one point, the shot at the very beginning, is a completely unskilled player, but then shows master calass skills on other occasions. And Jerry's final shot shows he isn't too untalented either. All in all one of the earlier, but not earliest and one of the better, but not best Tom and Jerry cartoons. I give it a thumbs-up and recommend checking it out. A fun watch with nice attention to detail.

Tee for Two (1945)**** (out of 4) One of the very best in the series has Tom on the golf course when he notices Jerry causing him some trouble. Soon the two are getting into all sorts of trouble as Tom tries to golf the perfect game but Jerry just won't let that happen. TEE FOR TWO is one of the funniest films in the series because there's just so much wacky violence that you can't help but laugh throughout. There are so many highlights here but one has to be the scenes where Tom upsets a large group of bees. Another terrific sequence deals with Tom getting his teeth knocked out. The animation is great as you'd expect but the golf course just gives the writers so much material and it's very creative.

As this short opens we see what appears to be a golf course; it is hard to be sure though as somebody has taken out so many divots it looks more like an artillery range! That somebody is of course Tom. When he finally does get the ball to the hole it keeps bouncing out; at first he can't see why, it soon becomes apparent that it is because Jerry is at the bottom of it and he doesn't enjoy being disturbed. When Tom realises what is going on he grabs Jerry with the intention of using him as a tee! What follows is the usual stream of violent gags viewers expect from the duo. Jerry gets hit by the ball a couple of times and hammered into the ground but as always Tom who suffers the most; he gets his teeth knocked out, attacked by an irate woodpecker, stung by a swarm of bees and even blown up by an exploding golf ball. This was a fairly standard Tom and Jerry short; plenty of violence and some good gags; I particularly liked the fully grown woodpecker hatching from an egg and attacking Tom and the introduction where we see just how bad Tom is at golf... although that doesn't explain how he can hit Jerry with a ball as he runs off! The animation is of a high standard and the jokes come thick and fast so if you don't like one it doesn't matter as there will be another one along in a matter of seconds. This might not be as good as some of their other sporting outings but it is still well worth watching and to my mind beats 'My Bunny Lies Over the Sea'; Bugs Bunny's golfing short.

The cartoon begins with Tom in the middle of a VERY bad game of golf. Already about 86 over par he, for some reason, uses Jerry as a Tee. Not taking kindly to this Jerry turns the table and plays tricks on Tom. And that's pretty much it for the rest of the cartoon. This one has quite a thin premise but gets enough mileage out of it I guess. The visual jokes are all rather amusing but I do feel sorry for Tom when he's victimized in such a way. Whether it's being stung by a hoard of bees or having his teeth smashed out by a rogue ball, Tom seems to get more than his usual share of pain in Tee for Two. Does that make me a bad person for thinking that it's funny?
