Edward Said: The Last Interview
Edward Said: The Last Interview
Prominent Columbia University English and Comparative Literature professor Edward Said was well known in the United States for his tireless efforts to convey the plight of the Palestinian people, and in this film shot less than a year before his death resulting from incurable leukemia, the author of such books as {-Orientalism}, {-Culture and Imperialism}, and {-Power, Politics, and Culture} discusses with filmmakers his illness, his life, his education, and the continuing turmoil in Palestine. Diagnosed with the disease in 1991, Said struggled with his leukemia throughout the 1990s before refraining from interviews due to his increasingly fragile physical state. This interview was the one sole exception to his staunch "no interview" policy, and provides fascinating insight into the mind of the man who became Western society's most prominent spokesman for the Palestinian cause.

Kampf auf der Bosporus-Brücke - Die Türkei und der gescheiterte Putschversuch
The night of July 15, 2016 changed the history of Turkey. On that day there were coordinated attacks by parts of the Turkish army, among others in Istanbul. The aim of the military: a coup against the government. The decisive confrontation occurred on the Bosporus Bridge. While President Erdogan was still on vacation, live at TV he called on the people who were devoted to him to stand against the military. As an enemy for the masses, he presented his adversary Fethullah Gülen, whom he branded as the coup leader. He also urged the imams of the country's mosques to condition the population to resist. And so it happens that at night thousands of agitated people take to the streets to oppose the armed insurgents. The death toll was high. 352 people died across Turkey during the attempted coup. The consequences are even more serious: Erdogan used this gift, as he called it himself, to undermine democracy, to arrange mass arrests of dissidents and to transform Turkey into a dictatorship.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

Russell Howard definitely has spark edge and twist. And he is a comedian that feels very naturally home on the stage. This show was rather diverse, because he gets around to a lot of different topics, ranging from personal loss, to easy pickings such as Trump.Russell Howard has good material which invokes some good and genuine laughs because the material is sharp, and his delivery is spot on.I was genuinely entertained by this show, and I am glad that I did decide to sit down and watch it after happening to stumble upon it on Netflix by sheer luck. "Russell Howard: Recalibrate" is definitely worth checking out if you enjoy stand-up comedy.

First of all, I laughed so hard I had to pause the show several times just to catch my breath. Secondly, I just want to say that this was an extremely well put together show with a strong common thread througout the whole thing, a lot of important messages and beautiful personal, relatable stories. With a hint of madness I think we can all recognize in ourselves, he also shows empathy, understanding and intelligence by pointing out both what is wrong in this world and what we need to appreciate. To do this without being too dark, but rather leaving the audience with a sence of optimism and cheerfullness, is brilliant.

Russel Howard is one of the comedians that genuienly make me laugh. not because I am very dull or I hate comedy, I guess it´s just because I have a very specific kind of humor that makes me laugh. anyway, now about the stand up: it is like his old stand ups, it´s very funny if you ask me, but you can´t find it funny if you didn´t like his previous stand ups, but the difference with this one it also gives Russel Howard hour and his old show good news´ vibes, I guess because he talks more about some current issues, but he has a very optimistic approach on this kind of issues so after watching the stand up I didn´t feel like "uh this world is going downhill" , so it´s not a George Carlin stand up, you can relax and watch it.

Russell is one of my favorite stand up comics today and I enjoyed this stand up special even tho it felt like a summary of The Russell Howard hour... which mean not much new material if you've watched that show and Russell Howard Good news in the past. So, if you don't watch any of those shows then I guess you're in for a treat :)It's mostly personal, it's a little bit political and it's funny !
