If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.

According to the back of the DVD box, "Black Cadillac" is based on a real life incident experienced by writer/director John Murlowski. I greatly suspect that his experiences and the movie only have the thinnest of connections, but that doesn't matter - what matters is if he made a good movie or not. There are some positive things about the movie. While it is low budget, it never looks it - it looks fairly slick. Also, there are some good tense moments here and there. But I don't think the movie quite makes it in the end. For one thing, there are some lengthy boring patches where you want to tell the movie to just get on with it. Also, the twist near the end is not only pretty predictable, it leaves the audience with quite a few unanswered questions that make parts of what you previously saw not make sense in retrospect. There are also some ridiculous bits, like people getting injuries that would clearly incapacitate someone in real like but the people are able to walk afterwards, as well as nobody bothering to wipe a message written on the thick condensation on the front windshield of a car. Don't get me wrong - this isn't a terrible movie - but you'll likely feel somewhat unsatisfied at the end.

Well this one surprisingly turned out pretty decent. "Black Cadillac" borrows even a lot more from Spielberg's "Duel" than "Joyride" did. And there isn't even one truck in sight. No hot, sun-laden desert roads here, but icy-cold, nightly, dark, snowy backwoods mountain-roads. That gave the movie a good atmosphere. The low budget shows a bit (once again compared to "Joyride", which had a much bigger one), but it doesn't diminish the fun you'll have with this movie. The acting of the three young protagonists was decent enough. Randy Quaid is good as always. And the Cadillac looked creepy and had a menacing, roaring engine-sound. The ending was satisfying, but not completely unpredictable. So, see this flick on a dark, icy cold & stormy winter night for maximum effect. You probably won't regret it.

Think. . . 'Dead End' (2003) + 'Joy Ride' (2001) Plot: After starting a pretty heavy fight at a Wisconsin bar, three Minnesotans (who are there to drink underage. . . for some reason) fight for their life against an unknown vengeful figure driving an amazing '57 Caddy Eldorado.Cast rundown: Randy Quaid as Sheriff Charlie is good as usual, but he's really let himself go over the years. The main cast of guys (Jason Dohring, Josh Hammond, Shane Johnson) are also pretty good, and a surprisingly well shaped group of characters. Kiersten Warren (that annoying chick that dated Slater in Saved by the Bell: The College Years) was actually not as annoying as she was on Saved by the Bell. . . but that could be due to her 15 minutes of total screen time and like four lines.Review: The plot is obviously nothing new. We've seen it tons of times. . . but that doesn't mean we can't always enjoy it. The fact that it takes place in the dead of winter on rural roads makes it even cooler. Icy car chases always add some necessary thrills. Solid acting and directing, and mostly solid writing, make it a more-than-adequate film if you're watching for the technical stuff. My only real problem with it was the predictable ending, which I called about 15 minutes in. But, overall, it's a very cool, and often exciting, little unknown horror flick.Final Verdict: 6.5/10. Definitely worth a watch.-AP3-

Part teen hormone's on overdrive movie, part car chase movie, part lost in the woods movie, part scary movie, part roadhouse fighting movie, part atmospheric freezing-snow movie, part girl trouble movie, and in the end let's not idolize the black Cadillac either. If a Studebaker Golden Hawk had been pursuing the three teens, it would have been just as effective. Basically "Black Cadillac" is what happens when you have a very thin script from supposedly your " own terrifying experience", and try and pad it into a movie. The endless chase scenes become tedious, and gradually the entire film loses steam, until the ending which seemed unimaginative at best. - MERK
