Sneaking out from a high-school dance, a group of friends get stranded in the woods on their way to a gathering at a family cabin and find their trip interrupted by a deranged killer picking them off one-by- one and must try to find a way to get away alive. This here was quite the enjoyable and fun old-school inspired slasher. The fact that there's the rather fun and somewhat authentic feel of the 80s comes through as the film's best effort with plenty of truly great throwbacks here. The main setting in the house, which has the cramped and confined location and really dark look throughout here which is a great touch here that really throws this into that style quite effectively as well as giving the killer the kind of perfectly set- up location that makes a killing spree there rather fun. Those early scenes of the house walk-throughs, where they get to see the decrepit-looking location and completely mangled remains that looks like the perfectly-created setting for the killer to appear and it seems certainly appropriate once it gets going in the later half once they finally encounter him. That takes the film into a fun turn as the change-over into the slashing makes this one a quite impressive effort as there's a lot to like here, starting with the discovery of the body-part construction in the living room and segueing into the great scene of the killer taking the group apart which features the big charge across the open field into the barn, the few solid parts into the big part of the house or the numerous encounters throughout the house as he appears in a variety of different rooms to deliver some rather fun times. This gets better here with the rather fun and exciting scenes in the final half as there's plenty of even more fun encounters throughout here as the action picks up considerably and gets way more frantic as the varying attacks gets this one even better with the different confrontations and thrilling action. With a great- looking killer and plenty of gory kills packed in here, there's plenty to like here that makes for enough positive to like here to overcome the few minor flaws here. The biggest problem is the film's rather stumbling pace in the first half where this takes a while to really get going. Filled with all sorts of extraneous plot-points that don't really impact the film as a whole or pointlessly dragging out scenes beyond their worth, there's a rather long period of time in the first half before it turns into a true slasher which holds this one back somewhat. As well, there's also the fact that the film's homaging of the past ends up hurting it in several instances, where it's incredibly too dark at spots to make it feel like a true occurrence at the time and really giving away it's gimmick-pretense. The missing-reel gag is also a big problem where it really spoils a big scene in the film and ends up being a gimmick for no reason. Otherwise, this was quite fun.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and minor drug use.

A movie that doesn't seem to know what Era the 80's were. The movie is clearly trying to be a homage to the slasher movies of the 80's but some makes some mistakes with that. First of no the movie is not good, , the acting is ....acted. To me it was clear i was watching young actors saying their lines and doing their job, there was no real investment in it, but most actors i never heard of ( except for Kendra Leigh Timmins, who's presence made me give one more star to the movie) The Movie also seemed to start out with the cliché " victim checklist" and would made you check off all that would be killed. But then it switched it around some, and when you do a homage movie , trying to be not like the movies you pay homage to, pulls it out of the Era of the 80's and place it firmly in 2014, 30 years later then the movie is said to take place. Yet the movie started really out like an 80's movie but lost some of that feel the more the movie progressed. Although the fact the cliché checklist can be used but not in the sense you would expect is nice, just not for what this movie wanted to be. To me it felt more like " We put in a cassette recorder and take out the mobile phones , " tadaa, the eighties" The story is B sorry i cant put it any other way like that. The see a name and only after finding a scary altar thing in a room is one of the characters going " Yea i know that name , there is this story about the people with that name and what they were." It came out of no where and felt shoehorned in there. Why not have him remember that name before, and also the kids know the story , the sheriff at the end was there and so knows it, but the deputy was like " I never heard of that" that made the reveal of the story of the killers origin more shoehorned in, in a " Oh yes the killer needs to have an origin" Also the last shot of the movies was more a late 70's thing and not really an 80's thing , but that is nit picking. And still i gave the movie a 6 star ..... even after all this bad stuff i have been saying. And that is because i see Actors , especially the young ones having fun, In my mind i could see them goofing about when the camera's were off. And yes the acting might be bad, but in that the movie does succeeded in one type of movie from he 80's The, what i call " We wanna be like ......" Movies. a lot of slashers came out that were just not like the big ones of that era but did their best to be like, because they so wanted to be like the movie, and in that this movie succeeded.the movie is not even 90 minutes, and a great time to waste time, and I feel we should see more of Kendra Timmins on the "big" Screen

What a blast, fun throwback to the 80s that didn't take itself too seriously! Sequel! Sequel! Loved the names of the characters that referenced classic horror directors. Loved the twists and turns and the "missing reel", even if its been used before. I'm a fan of Justin Kelly's from degrassi so it was nice to see him in this! I do wish Sarah Fisher had a more substantial role though. I also love Eve Harlow from The 100 and it was cool to see her in this. I don't know, I just had fun watching it. I took off 2 stars cause I didn't love the dad or the killer, but other than that I thought it was fun and I'd recommend it to friends!

I went into this movie VERY skeptical, the reviews and ratings made me quite hesitant but I was bored and decided to give it a shot and I gotta say I don't get all the hate.First off, maybe I'm wrong, but the vibe I got was that this was a straight faced parody. It was made to honor slasher films while making fun of them without being over the top ridiculous. Was I ever that scared? Not really. Did I have a laugh and enjoy the ride? Hell yeah! What I also liked was that, while the filmmakers were trying to honor the classic slasher, they also tried to be creative. They mixed it up. It took a little too long before the kids started to get killed, but I enjoyed actually getting to know them for once (which we never really got to in slashers), and I liked all the performances. And I read someone say the cast looked old for their parts, I guess they haven't seen a classic 80s slasher in a while. THOSE actors look old. Pretty cool to see Stephan James from Selma do a l little slasher like this. Also Robert Patrick was EPIC! Everything he said was like a t-shirt slogan!I get that it's not for everyone but I really think people should give this flick a shot. Go in with a fun open mind and you'll enjoy the ride!
