It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

Of course with the anticipated success of "Transformers" back in 2007, The Asylum had to sink their claws in and come up with their own poor man's version - as they do with so many other movies. "Transmorphers" wasn't the first of such 'mockbuster' movie to see the light of day from The Asylum, nor was it the last. The story here is that mankind found life on another planet 20 million light years away from Earth - sure - and sent a message of peace. Five years later we received their reply, and Earth was devastated and put into ruin, leaving mankind to live pitiful existences fearing the invading machines. It is up to a small group of soldiers to save mankind and save Earth.Right, just about every Sci-Fi cliché stuffed into one bad take here. This movie was just fundamentally bad on so many levels. First of all, the CGI effects were horrible, and I swore that my eyes were bleeding a couple of times throughout the ordeal that was "Transmorphers". The robots looked like something from a bad 1990's PC game. It was so fake and awkward to look at. And to top it off, this movie is making heavy use of flashing lights constantly, so if you have epilepsy then this movie should be avoided. Well, that is not actually the only reason for avoiding this movie.Moving on; secondly, the acting in the movie was just laughable. The people in the movie had everything working against them. The script was poorly constructed, the dialogue was wooden and embarrassing, and of course standing face to face with horrible CGI effects doesn't really help an actors motivation, I guess.Once the movie ends, if you manage to suffer through this painful experience, you are left with a very hollow sensation that you just wasted about an hour and a half on utter and complete rubbish.Every once in a while The Asylum manages to put something out there that is watchable and enjoyable, but "Transmorphers" is definitely not one such occurrence.Take heed and notice the low score on IMDb, let it be a guiding light and lead you away from this movie. If you hold your limited time in life precious, stay well clear of "Transmorphers".

I wish there was a zero rating because this feature does not even deserve a 1. The acting is atrocious, the dialog is juvenile, and the story defies logic. For a time, I couldn't figure out what was going on. The "General" and I use that term loosely, was as useful as a beef expert in a vegan restaurant. The Earth's best weapon is turned off for 5 years (Huh?) and brought back when every other plan has failed. (Huh?) On the battlefield, the enemy lets human attackers run up to them and flip frizbees at them. (Silly!) The special effects is laughable, I think they integrated cartoons into the movie. If you have not seen this thing, my advice to you is to NOT! And if you decide to watch it anyway, don't say I didn't warn you.

And thats not a joke. The script of this movie appears to have been doodled onto a café napkin and then gone unedited into the movie. That however is does not matter. Even if the script was decent, the actors in this movie would put any good writer to shame. They are more useless then a seat belt on a pogo stick. Enough of that however because I want to talk about the CGI.Transmorphers was released in 2007 (the same year as Transformers). So you would expect CGI that is at least deserving of the era. Well, prepared to be disappointed as Transmorphers serves a cold dish of CGI that rivals none other than the first series of Star Trek, or Dr Who from the 60's. Awful stuff, this. When you get a low budget film like this, you expect to see some things that are not perfect, but with Transmorphers, the lack of attention-to-detail is astonishing. As I am already surprised you have read up to here, I'll leave you with an all defining example of the directors attitude to this movie. In the final scene before the credits roll up, you see a forgettable character standing there, enjoying the blue sky as the clouds have parted for the first time in 300 years. In the shot before this, her face was covered in scars and blood. These details have since evaded the memory of the director. And he obviously didn't care about the REALLY FREAKING OBVIOUS JUMBO JET FLYING RIGHT BEHIND HER HEAD……….Fail.1 star.

Transmorphers (2007) ** (out of 4) The Asylum has made a name for themselves by releasing movies direct-to-DVD just as a "popular" film was hitting theaters. When THE DA VINCI CODE was released Asylum released THE DA VINCI TREASURE. When the remake of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL was released Asylum struck back with THE DAY THE EARTH STOPPED. Since you have the idea, this here is a rip of TRANSFORMERS. The movie takes place four-hundred years after humans were destroyed by alien robots and forced underground. After yet another defeat, Warren Mitchell (Matthew Fox) is taken out of the freezer in hopes that he can lead the people in a win against the robots. Even though the title is cashing in on the Michael Bay film, the actual story has more in common with Fritz Lang's METROPOLIS and Cameron's TERMINATOR series. I'm not quite sure why some people go into a movie like this expecting it to compete with a big Hollywood movie. That's not going to happen. This film reminded me of countless bad movies that were released to drive-ins back in the 50s and 60s. Films like FRANKENSTEIN'S DAUGHTER, PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE and various Roger Corman movies were made cheaply and often were cashing in on much better Hollywood pictures. With that in mind I didn't hate this film nearly as much as I was expecting. Yes, the acting is horrible, directing sloppy and the special effects are lame but they're all so bad that you can enjoy the film just by laughing at it. The screenplay is full of dialogue with characters standing around talking about what they should or shouldn't do. The dialogue talks about the past, the future and the present yet none of it matters because it never adds up to anything. It all comes off as just silly filler to take up time until the budget can raise enough money to have another action scene on their computerized effects. The acting is pretty bad from start to finish and at times it's rather laughable as actors try saying this dialogue. I will give them credit that they could keep a straight face while saying it. Wolf isn't too bad but you can't help but think he'd rather be somewhere else. Fans of Welles, Bergman and Kubrick aren't going to find anything worthy here. However, if you like really, really bad movies then sit back, drink a cold one and laugh away.
