I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
It's a very enjoyable film that doesn't quite meet the same standards as the earlier aardman films. I think I would have enjoyed the film more if the story wasn't based around football. I'm not a great football fan and don't watch it normally so much of the humour and the parody of football didn't really work that well for me. It's a fun film though with great characters and voice acting. The animation is excellent and a pleasant change from computer generated animation. As ever with aardman the film has lots of charm and gives you a warm feeling and generally the jokes work but I was a bit disconnected with the story. I'm certainly glad I watched it though which isn't true of most films I see nowadays which often feel like I've wasted hours of my life. I watch films infrequently and can go many months without watching a film but this film basically appealed to me because of how much I've enjoyed the earlier aardman films.
This film tells the story of some Stone Age men who have to challenge Bronze Age men a football game in order to win their land back. The story is really silly, full of cliches and is far fatched. What drives me crazy is that the characters are not even cute. In fact, they look rather horrid! In "Wallace and Gromit", this prototype of characters work, but in "Early Man" it does not work at all. I did not quite enjoy it.
It's prehistoric Manchester. A meteor crashes into the ground. Early man finds the meteorite and invents the game of football. Some age later, a rabbit-hunting primitive tribe lives in the crater turned lush valley. They have forgotten the game. When they are driven out by a bronze age group, they have to rediscover their heritage to beat their invaders at their own game.I usually like Aardman a lot more but this one lacks anything special. The characters are fine but I like the Aardman animals more. It's a sports movie but it's soccer which is not the most appealing to me. It's all fine but not one of my favorite Aardman.
It's a long time since I've walked out on a film in mid flow - and sadly this was one of them. I had no idea of the football theme (which didn't particularly interest me) but the humour wasn't clever and not a patch on the other Ardman features which were excellent. A shame Nick Park could get this so wrong when his TV shorts were brimming with superbly-observed animation.
