In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
The first review of this film loses all creditability when they get one of the main actresses mixed up with her sister. This is not Meg Tilly of "Agnes of God" Fame, this is Jennifer Tilly of "Bullets Over Broadway fame". I thought this film was a wild ride, over the top and not at all what I thought. It is scary and a tad sick, but never so sick I had to shut my eyes. For the worst night mare you can dream of this type of film does it well. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and Jennifer, not Meg Tilly does what she does so well. She plays a character so over the top you can hardly imagine anyone like her and yet she scares the hell out of you. Much like Kathy Bates in "Misery". Another great film that keeps you on the edge of your seat. All the performances are great and for a scary wild ride I suggest this film.
This movie was like a bad train wreck, as horrible as it was, you still had to continue to watch. My boyfriend and I rented it and wasted two hours of our day. Now don't get me wrong, the acting is good. Just the movie as a whole just enraged both of us. There wasn't anything positive or good about this scenario. After this movie, I had to go rent something else that was a little lighter. Jennifer Tilly is as usual a very dramatic actress. Her character seems manic and not all there. Darryl Hannah, though over played, she does a wonderful job playing out the situation she is in. More than once I found myself yelling at the TV telling her to fight back or to get violent. All in all, very violent movie...not for the faint of heart.
I thought the concept of the movie was interesting, but poorly executed. It has "Misery" like moments, that keep you in suspense, but then after a while, its hard to believe the turn of events and the whole scenario. At first I thought the house was very remote and isolated from town or any other establishment, but it turns out , that just a few blocks away, is a big factory, so that just made the whole plot silly, and unbelievable. The woman could have just walked there in the first ten minutes of the movie, and asked for help, but things like freezing weather, an exaggerated Jennifer Tilly, and tons of sedatives were put into the storyline to defer us from that point. Overall, I thought it was entertaining, (we all enjoy watching gruesome acts), but It fell very short from generating the popularity and suspense, that Misery had. At least in Misery, Kathy Bates was actually believable as a crazy woman, and you almost feel sorry for her.
What can I say??? This movie was so Dumb & Stupid I thought it was a Psychotic DRAG Comedy - They should rename it "Bitching Pregnant Cat Fight!" What a stupid waste of time , if you want to see(DIE DIE!!! "I WANT YOUR BABY DRAG QUEEN) Jennifer Tilly being her Freaky self then just rent out one Of the "Chucky" movie, oh ya , "The Bride Of Chucky." It's more fun watching the Two Ugly Plastic dolls (one of them Jennifer Tilly turned into the UGLY Female version of Chucky) having Squeaky plastic rubber sex then watching Daryl Hannah being pregnant , Dumb & stupid; & Jennifer Tilly Grinding up her Husbang in a Food Processor reminded me of my Mother trying to do House Work! OK it's just BAD!!!
