Good concept, poorly executed.
A Masterpiece!
Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
I was able to watch this movie at home on BluRay from my public library. The story mainly concerns a character played by David Oyelowo. He is Harold, a dedicated, serious, hard-working employee of a firm located in Chicago. His "best friend" runs the company, but as things unfold we see that his friend is duplicitous and will do anything for the bottom line.Harold goes to Mexico but finds out his company sale is imminent and he will be out of a job. Industriously he plots to fake his own kidnapping in an attempt to get a big severance for himself. $5Million sounds pretty good, doesn't it?Yet nothing goes as it should, the mess gets bigger and bigger. It is a dark comedy, lots of funny stuff but characters get shot and killed. While I enjoyed it as an interesting diversion, with very good actors, in total it isn't a particularly good movie.
I'd never heard of this film, so I'm very glad I stumbled on to it! It's a dark, intelligent, well acted comedy. I loved it and will be one of the few films I'll enjoy watching a second time n
I like dumb action comedies, you just sit back and have a hearty laugh at all the goofiness that goes on then doze off when you get bored, there's no better way to relax after a stressful day. This movie is nothing like that. I thought it was from just looking at the trailer, but the truth is I was really intrigued by the plot from start to finish. I keep seeing other reviews where people call this a comedy, a dark one even, but I feel like the only comedic character was the protagonist, and there was nothing dark about the humor he portrayed. Some of the other characters are even outright scary, so unlike other action comedies you actually feel like our main man is in real danger. Not only that, but he actually goes through some serious character development, which is something I've never seen in a regular comedy. I mean here you have this clueless goody-two shoes who resents all the 'bad' people who have it better than him, and believe me I was not rooting for this guy at all, just felt sorry really. But as the movie went on I got to see the real struggle in his heart as his situation gets worse and worse, then somewhere along the way I started feeling like I knew where he was coming from. It's sad to see people trying to compare this to other movies, like they were trying to make Sicario with a hint of Forrest Gump and a dash of Rush Hour, something like that. But you can clearly tell this movie actually stands on its own, with a tightly woven plot, solid characters, and plenty to reflect upon. Though I have to admit, I don't know what genre this movie fits in either, but whatever it is, I think this is one of its best pieces.
I guess with that cast, it may sound strange to call it a little movie. But it's not a blockbuster and even with that cast, I don't think you can accuse the movie of having a big budget. Also the cast helps with the B-movie plot. It may feel uneven at times, but it is still fun to watch. The beginning is timeline wise not the beginning, but even so, I think many will be able to see through and be able to put things together (pieces of the puzzle), even before we get to that point in time. So I wouldn't really say there is a big element of surprise there. It still makes sense to have it structured that way. So enjoy this movie if you can, it is a fun ride
