While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

My wife hated it, all the way through watching it and now we can't stop talking about it. A single gesture has come to symbolize a triviality that is no longer viewed as an obscenity but now a talking point when it appears. The scenes of the "miracles" are interesting and provocative with a dark underlying sense of serenity. It all seems to flow from Woody as a redemption of his actions and his attitude on life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The photography was intriguing with the moving pans when picking up the pieces and the surreal depictions of the towns people. I hope this movie will become a cult classic. I recommend a group viewing with martinis and steak tartare.

I cannot think of a worse film. The bad acting was only surpassed by the bad script and the bad production work. Throughout, I kept thinking, was Woody that desperate for money? The trailers at the beginning hinted that there is an entire genre devoted to has-been actors hard up for cash. They insist on ten lines in this review, so I am typing away to fill up space. What more is there to say? There are great films in the world, like Loves of a Blonde by Forman or even great Woody Allen films like Annie Hall and Sleeper. I only rented this because of Woody's name, and for that, he earned his pay. Other great movies: The Third Man, Dr. Strangelove, Life of Brian, Groundhog's Day. Three more lines to go. Good movies: What about Bob? Anything by Hitchcock. Even a Mary Kate and Ashley movie, which as a father of young girls I ended up watching, is better than this thing, their best being "Our lips are sealed."

An Alfonso Arau (Mexican director) film with American characters and in English. Just as ludicrous and circoesk as some of his other works.Love his perceptions and the fun he makes of the Catholic church. Some of the observations are absolutely right on. Others are so ridiculous that they're hysterically funny. Woody Allan was type cast as a murderer who gets away with murder and at the end recaps the whole film and observes that God is probably saying, "F___ it if you can't take a joke." Which might be what the movie is saying too. David Schwimmer - zip nothing Fran Drescher - is an absurd caricature. So it's supposed to be a religious spoof... waste of time and money in my opinion, and there is some humor.

As a moderate but open-minded Catholic, I found this piece of trash particularly insulting not just to religion but also to my intelligence No need to recap the story, but what I find so ironic is that if this film had insulted Judaism, Islam, Holocaust survivors, or AIDS patients, the liberal elite (you know who you are) would've had a field day shouting "racist bigotry" or "filled with hatred" or "could induce anti-semitism throughout the world." (something like when Mel Gibson's last film was released) I don't get it--Mel Gibson makes a film and the elite doesn't want us to see it, yet "Picking Up the Pieces" gets made & if you're religious (esp. Catholic) and offended then you're just supposed to sit there and "take a joke." Can you say "HYPOCRISY!?" Why am I not surprised? Oh well, despite the supposed "hilarious" nature of this film that went straight to cable and video, it seems that the Christians got the last laugh: just how many HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS has Mel Gibson's movie made so far in just eight weeks anyway?
