Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Best movie of this year hands down!
The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
I was entertained. I do not know much about the actors. I was looking forward to it since it gave a mystery movie vibe and yeah I love old fashioned mysteries. There are not many horror elements. And whatever horror elements are there, the impact is less but it works as a old fashioned mystery novel type movie. The setting is impressive. The main girl looks like Megan fox, sort of a turnoff because she looked like somebody who didn't really fit in with the movie. Probably someone less model-like would have fit the role. A girl who has the next door look, for example. And I don't think her acting is anything to rave about anyway. The main guy is OK. But my favourite actor was actually Fred Durst! Who knew LOL! He does the job pretty well. I actually didn't recognize him but I thought "I have seen this guy somewhere", I couldn't place him. One thing I did like about this film is how it ignored one cliché, that of the friend character.Like in certain films, the Fred durst character turns out to be a two face sort of a character where he turns out to be negative because of his experiences. But in this movie he still appears a guy who has not lost his innocence and who still cares about his friend despite everything the main guy did. The main guy was a jerk IMO. But yeah overall the movie has borrowed from many sources and sticks to the predictable script. But I still thought it was a good effort and it delivers when it comes to the suspense part. 7/10
First, I would like to complaint how bad it is to visibly copy stories from other movies, like this one did from "The Wicker Man" and "The Village". Even thought filmmakers added some new element to the story, the "436" thing, sadly it's NEVER developed. The movie ends and we don't know WHY they have only 436 inhabitants, WHO started with this thing or IF people know about that. Also, there is NEVER an engaging happening to make the spectator even care about what's happening-- I felt like sleeping after 20 minutes already. There is simply no tension, suspense or anything to fear while Mr. Cady passes by the village. Acting is the only thing that is not a mess-- but isn't great anyways, it's just acceptable. All in all, this is a really bad movie and I'm just mad at me for renting this.
It's not going to win any awards, and the acting is not the greatest, but the story is interesting in a Stepford Wives/Wicker man sort of way.TV director/producer Michelle Maxwell MacLaren did a good job of presenting a story by new writer Michael Kingston in his sophomore effort. The actors are not the thing here, but the story, and it has probably been done before, but I found it captivating. If this town voted in this year's primaries, it would be a 100% vote for Santorum. It's that kind of town, and you better conform or they have ways of making you do so. The "doctor" has no medical training and doesn't need any as he has perfected the necessary procedure for dissidents. They don't need jails, because they will have your complete cooperation once they are done. Besides voicing concern, wanting to leave is considered a sign of sickness, and will be dealt with. The town's population has remained at 436 for over 100 years. They have elaborate rituals to make sure it stays that way. Like the Roach Motel, once you check in, you can't check out. It is the thinking behind this number that was the really interesting part of the film. I know people like this, and you do too.The existence of Rockwell Falls in America is very believable.
Population 436 shines most of the times. Jeremy Sisto delivers again. His performance is very convincing, (I also loved him in One Point O). He is a very likable guy, quite subtle in his reactions but certainly respectable. Also, the rest of the cast gets the job done.Plotwise, its a very though-provoking film, integrated with a not-so-casual ending. I wouldn't call it a twist but surely it canceled my low expectations and made my exhilaration about the movie greater. Not much in the thrilling aspect there. It offers a couple of moments where you may be scared or feel uncomfortable, but only if you are really sensitive :) Also, I wouldn't call it exactly a problem but the pacing sometimes goes slower that you'd expect. Most of it though it's entertaining and keeps you guessing for clues and twists.A strangely entertaining movie with an otherworldly passing wind.It will satisfy your lust to think, doubt and sympathize with the characters.Pop/436 certainly falls in the Drama/Mystery/Thriller genre. The only horror aspect this film could touch is, the fear someone might have for the unknown. If you liked Twin Peaks and/or the Twilight Zone then, this is no exception.Don't forget to keep an open mind for this one and you will be greatly rewarded. :-D
