I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

Released in 2004, "Decoys" chronicles events at a Canadian campus where female aliens masquerade as hot blondes and seduce male students in order to perpetuate their dying species. Corey Sevier plays the protagonist with likable Elias Toufexis as his best friend and Meghan Ory as his maybe-girlfriend. Stefanie von Pfetten and Kim Poirier play the key alien babes. Richard Burgi plays a detective and Nicole Eggert a police officer."Decoys" mixes elements of 1995's "Species" with the campus environment of 1998's "Urban Legend." It can't compete with the former but it's marginally better than the latter IMHO. While many people hate this film I give it a relatively high rating simply because it's entertaining, which is my main criteria for the worthiness of any movie. "Decoys" hits most of the mandatory checkboxes for an effective horror flick. I particularly liked the campus-in-the-dead-of-winter location, which no other slasher/monster flick has done to my knowledge, except the sequel, 2007's "Decoys 2: Alien Seduction." Maybe the reason horror aficionados dislike it is because it has so much humor and camp. I usually don't like horror films that mix-in comedy, like 2002's crappy "Cabin Fever," but "Decoys" and its equally-good sequel mix them in a palatable way. Neither of these movies is scary, although there are a couple of "got ya" scenes and the aliens are hideous, but they're satisfyingly amusing with good casts and superb women. The film runs 95 minutes and shot in Ottawa, Ontario, mainly the University of Ottawa.GRADE: B

Well, this sort of sneaked up on me.There I was expecting a terrible little b-movie, but what I got was something cooler, odder.I am a great fan of "The Faculty" and my husband, Terry and I have been David Decoteau movies off late, so maybe it was a relief not to have to wipe my brow over another homo erotic escapade. The story is a familiar one, but it is told with some panache. The dead bodies are very coo and the dream sequences are great.Terry and I really enjoyed it and I am excited that there is a sequel. Bring it on!Brian

They can seduce anyone, the tag line reads. But it doesn't seem to apply to virgin nerds as they keep resisting. A college campus is current home to beautiful aliens out to seduce young men. A difference in body temperatures usually results in the guys being left frozen stiff.Enter our virgin nerd and his ability to resist the naked charms of the aliens (even when he thinks they are normal). The real question is not why the aliens are here, but are they good or bad. Are they intentionally killing guys or is it an unwanted side effect? That question helps drive the second half of the film. When all is said and done, this really just seems like a college sex comedy. Sure it has aliens and death but there is no real tension to make it really qualify as a horror film. No real comedy either (but that is common with a lot of sex comedies). There is a sequel in the works that is either just trying to make a quick buck or might actually explain some of what happens in this movie. Good for eating popcorn to as it requires little thought or attention.

At St. John's College, in a small snowy Canadian town, all the male students are foaming at the mouth over a slew of spanking new blonde, buxom and beautiful party-hearty hotties over at the Phil Beta Omega sorority house. Unfortunately for them, the ladies actually turn out to be scaly alien creatures in disguise who thrive on cold temperatures and male DNA, which they extract with blood-sucking tentacles that come out of their chests. As victims begin popping up ("frozen from the inside out"), a freshman student (Corey Sevier) discovers their secret and must convince a disbelieving pair of detectives (Richard Burgi and Nicole Eggert), his pretty tomboy friend (Meghan Ory) and his virginal roommate (Elias Toufexis) what's really going on. Their weakness is fire, which leads to a finale with our distraught hero raiding the sorority house and going on a flame-thrower rampage.DECOYS has a pretty entertaining and amusing first two-thirds, but it severely slips up near the end when it becomes a little more serious than its silly premise can believably accommodate. And there's an irritating non-ending to contend with as well, but the special effects are passable, there are a few genuine laughs and the cast does a pretty good job. Best of all is Kim Poirier, whom you may remember as the girl who got that nasty chainsaw death in the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake. That film wasn't much of a showcase for the actress, but here she gets the chance to shine playing one of the seductive aliens. Just watching her go from an ice cream cone-licking seductress to a more emotional being when she warms up to one of the guys, you can see she has enough range and sex appeal to go far in Hollywood given the right breaks come her way. And though Sevier overdoes it a bit near the end, he probably has a bright future ahead of himself, as well.Apparently, this was a theatrical release in Canada and a very limited big screen release in the U.S. before heading to video and the SciFi Channel.
