Best movie of this year hands down!

Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.

Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

This 1986 sci-fi film stars Jason Patric, Jami Gertz, Lucas Haas, Claude Brooks, Peter DeLuise, James Le Gros, Adrian Pasdar and Richard Jordan. This takes place in the post-apocalyptic future where we meet a group of orphan friends, Jason (Patric), Terra (Gertz), Daniel (Haas), Rabbit (Brooks), Tug (DeLuise) and Metron (Le Gros). They reside at an orphan compound ran by the military where water is very limited. Soon, they find a mystical orb from space that can heal and bring rain. The late, Jordan (The Secret of My Success) plays corrupt leader, Grock and Pasdar (Top Gun, Near Dark) plays orphan, Darstar. Sarah Douglas (Superman II), Terrence Mann (Critters) and the late, Charles Durning (Tootsie) also appear. This is sort of a combination of "Mad Max" and "Rollerball" plus Jordan's character resembles Bison from "Street Fighter." The film could've been better, but it does have some neat effects, Patric and Gertz had good chemistry and reunited a year later in "The Lost Boys." I'd give this a try at least once.

For some reason, I found this film boring two minutes in and I guess the writer felt my pain later on with lines like: "Do you get bored just sitting in this box?" and "I'll do everything I can to see you're not bored." (Fail.) No babies were harmed during the making of this film. In fact, no babies were in this movie at all, despite the title of the film.In the movie's defense, I bet kids of 30 years ago might find this adventure fun and could relate to the post-apocalyptic skating "heroes." This was not the case for an adult seeing this for the first time three decades too late. Especially with some of the outdated special effects, the locked-in-time roller skating craze and the bad editing with obvious chunks of scenes cut out that would've explained more than the exposition ADR'ed in post.So much is going on here. In the far distant future without much water, kids are "imprisoned" and must learn the art of skating to enter a society we never really see. Meanwhile, a prophecy is fulfilled when a half animated crystal ball amazes kids and leads them to the promised water. Meanwhile, the kids are hunted for no real reason. Meanwhile, one of the boys finds his village of ulterior motives. Meanwhile, one of the girls finds paradise and her daddy. Meanwhile, Superman's nemesis, Ursa, is once again loyal to bad leaders. Meanwhile, Johnny Five's evil cousin switches loyalty to stay just as evil. Meanwhile, a dam breaks free to make an ocean. Meanwhile, there is a Tire Land. Not sure most of this would work today, for kids anyways. But, back then, I guess it might have fun for the Star Wars fan base, especially since it would more than a decade before the prequels would emerge. Never really cared for post-apocalyptic films. I get it; it'll be depressing. The lands will be barren, water scarce, evil over-the-top tyrants, anarchy and tons and tons of dirty folks and sets. Depressing these films are. I guess some people love these movies. I find them disheartening and miserable. I suppose Solarbabies at least made it "fun" since the kids seemed to be having a ball making it.But, still: Not recommended.***Final thoughts: Daddy "Greentree." Hahahaha. I had to laugh at this character introduced late into the film. I used to work for a company called Greentree. At least, I took that unintentionally humorous moment from this.

In a future in which most water has disappeared from the Earth, we find a group of teenagers, living at an orphanage, run by the despotic rulers of the new Earth.The group in question plays a hockey based game on roller skates and are quite good.It has given them a unity that transcends the attempts to bring them to heel by the government.Finding an orb of special power, they find it has unusual effects on them. They escape from the orphanage and try to cross the wasteland looking for a place they can live free as the stormtroopers search for them and the orb....I thought this would have been a bit of fun, Prayer of the Rollerboys crossed with the camp bits of Beyond Thunderdome, with half of the cast of the lost boys thrown in for good measure.It's a good slice of eighties sci-fi (not the good sort), but the problem lies with the many plots that are developed, and never elaborated which disturb the narrative.But, for what it's worth, it has it's moments. Jordan wears a uniform that makes him look like a thunderbird, there is a wonderful torture apparatus in the mix, and it has a whole explorers/masters of the universe/cyborg feel to it.If you can ignore the story and some of the plot points, and realise that it's a good old slice of eighties cheese, you may appreciate something.

This movie is about children raised in a prison type orphanage after a post-apocalyptic earth.The children are supposed to be teenagers, but the only one close is the character played by Lucas Hass who was 10 years old when this movie was released. The rest are in their early to mid twenties and it shows they are older.The acting is bad and not believable, it is difficult to like this movie. They have a pet owl, and it is unfortunately shot by one of the villain's henchmen, the group decides it should be buried but for some reason don't know why they have this feeling. I know it's based on the script but the actors should have complained.Someone said people would walk out of Star Wars (IV A New Hope)if they saw it in the theaters today. I disagree, at least Star Wars had a good story and is/was watchable even today. Solarbabies filming looks dated and old, while Star Wars IV remains fresh. I saw it when it first came out in 1977 and went to it any chance I got, I was 8 years old at the time. As VCRS were many years away at that time.Do not wast your time with this movie, it is difficult to enjoy.
