I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

Kapoor & Sons came as a surprise to me where I expected it to be a usual Bollywood melodrama. But, this one turned out to be a great plot with sincere performances. This is the movie that separates itself as a family drama from family melodramas.Special mention for Ratna Pathak Shah outperforms every one else and delivers a great deal of on-screen command.Sublime plot, no melodramatic dialogues, no over-the-top twists.Kapoor and Sons is pure, emotional piece or art. A movie to cherish forever.

Shakun Batra made magic with The Lunchbox turning something so everything and mundane to something so beautiful. With Kapoor and Sons, he has broken new ground on various fronts. Right from the beginning you know this is not going to be average over the top song and dance Bollywood masala fare. This is a very well thought out, searingly brilliant story with perfectly cast actors complemented by gorgeous cinematography and music.Rishi Kapoor is hilarious as the namesake Kapoor family patriarch while Ratna Pathak Shah and Rajat Kapoor bring their stage game to the big screen with stupendous ease. Alia Bhatt breezes through her quirky role. The movie works though due to the brilliant, awkward (on purpose) chemistry between Sidharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan who completely nail their roles. I'm so happy to have finally watched this movie. My favorite Hindi movie since Nil Batey Sannata

Just saw this movie without knowing much about it. The only thing I knew was that this movie has a cheesy song from this rapper called Badshah - "Ladki beautiful .." If you know this movie only because of this song, like I did, then you will be missing a great family drama. What a powerful movie with so many flawed characters. All the characters are played by some really good actors. Some really great performances by Alia, Sidharth, Rishi, Fawad and Ratna. Truly amazing Hindi movie which handled so many complex issues like, infidelity, homosexuality, jealousy, sibling rivalry and loneliness. Without giving away too much, you have to see this movie if you want to see a serious family Hindi movie.

Father had lied to his wife about his ongoing affair with a colleague, wife had lied to her younger son about giving his novel story to his elder brother, elder son had lied about his being gay. And the guy who haven't lied to anyone, was considered as a loser. Story of a family who was just staying together, instead of living. And there was a hidden flame between them which was sure to come out whenever the family got together for a party or even regular dinner. Rishi Kapoor's get up is amazing, initially he's unrecognizable. Dadu (Rishi) is the only common interest among all the family members. There's not a single unnecessary shot in the film, knitted beautifully and though it's 2:17 hours but never felt too long for a family drama.
