Simply Perfect
It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
It took 19 years for this sequel to be made and it certainly wasn't worth it. This was among the worst animated movies I've ever seen. This really has nothing to do with the original, other than the fact that the plot vaguely resembles the longest segment from the original film. That movie had variety as it was an anthology film that featured several different animation styles. This just has the same direct to video quality artwork throughout the whole film. I guess we can't just blame Disney for doing this. The plot is quite weak and very clichéd. A woman whose civilization was destroyed by an evil star lord has to stop him from becoming immortal. The film is even too short, with little character development. It's mostly an excuse to show uncalled for violence and nudity. I guess the voice acting isn't that bad. For me, it just has no reason to exist at all. *1/2
I was recently disappointed when I rewatched the original "Heavy Metal" film and I'd never actually seen this direct-to-video sequel before, but I again found myself disappointed. First, I was disappointed that this was not an anthology film like the original, and instead is one full-length story, which isn't really a bad thing, but wasn't what I was expecting. My second disappointment was with the film's rampant misogyny. This was the main detraction from my recent rewatching of the 1981 original film. I was thinking that a follow-up film made 20 years later might instead focus on science fiction and less on buxom ladies in various states of dress, but that is not the case. The film is based on the comic "The Melting Pot" by Kevin Eastman of TMNT fame, Simon Bisley of 2000AD fame, and Eric Talbot. The story involves a Julie Strain voiced character avenging the destruction of her home world and also rescue her sister from a smarmy villain voiced by Michael Ironside. And this is all the fault of the Loc-Nar, the evil storytelling orb from the first film, when a shard of it is discovered. Billy Idol is the only other well known actor in the film. And heavy metal music is, of course, prominently features on the soundtrack. An extra half star for Monster Magnet, Queens of the Stoneage, Bauhaus (not heavy metal), but the rest of bands I didn't really care for.
Heavy Metal 2000 is the sequel to the 1981 animated-anthology film "Heavy Metal".The original Heavy Metal was a great film.It combined humor, graphic violence, sex and interesting sci-fi storyline. It was an excellent animated film and it never gets old.Being a fan of the old one, I watched the sequel as well. The sequel is fairly different from the original. While the original was told in anthology form, this one is not.I have not seen this movie in a while so I do not remember the plot that much.It is actually a bit like the final story of the original "Heavy Metal".The animation is good, the same kind as featured in the film "Titan A.E", there are a few good songs, but the soundtrack is nowhere near as good as the original film, the violence and sex are still there.Overall, it's a decent film but nowhere near as good as the first film.
Heavy Metal 2000...what a waste of life. The acting was abysmal, the writing was atrocious, the plot was simplistic, the animation was atrocious and a waste of production, the whole movie lacked in every respect. I had great hopes for Heavy Metal 2000, when I saw the original Heavy Metal a year or so ago, but when I finally set eyes upon the film, I I was disgusted...they could have done so much more (or less in some areas). I also felt that Heavy Metal 2000 was filthy in all the wrong places and for all the wrong reasons. I respect them for making this film Rated R, but for fu*ks sake, do it the right way, don't just throw some filth in a scene that doesn't need it. I'd give this film a 1/10, making the worst piece of more adult animation I have ever seen. A disgrace to the original "Heavy Metal". Excuse me while I go burn this atrocity. I got it for free and I feel cheated.
