hyped garbage
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
This is one of the most important movies of this century so far. It should be required watching, just as many books are required reading, in educational institutions. One can not truly understand the meaning of freedom without understanding the cost of freedom.
If this story doesn't move you, not much will. A very real depiction of what happens to a Fallen Marine and how he gets back home to his family...Semper Fi Chance...Until Valhalla Brother...
I understand how some people completely reject war but this isn't a movie about war but a story about a man, a Marine, who feels guilt for taking an office job rather than go out on another combat tour. On the other end, you have a young Marine who died in combat and deserved to be treated with such care and attention. It is the relationship between these two characters that I believe is unlike any other movie I've ever seen. It is no wonder why this movie never made it out to the general public. It was kept quiet and because it would have made people second guess the war effort. Not that the director deliberately created as so, but when the public finally faced the facts of the war they began to wane on support of it. Even now, this movie hits home after twelve years of LCP Phelps's death. Get your tissues ready.
The best way to sum up this movie in a few words would be : a perfect representation of an Americanised version of Okuribito. All the features that made Okuribito stood out during the Academy can be found in this film. The beauty within all the small movements and facial emotions from every characters paying their respects to one who died for the country, the art of the mortuary from the cleaning process to the burial, the self-realisation journey of the main character while escorting a comrade back home etc.Regardless of the fact that this movie is decently made but still has room for improvement, there were several powerful moments in this film that made me ponder if it is really under rated
