The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

I sat down to watch "Grace" without knowing anything about the movie, aside from it being a horror movie. And that usually is sufficient enough to have me interested.I read the synopsis and must admit that it seemed like the movie could prove to be something unique. Well, it wasn't all that unique. Sure, it stood out in the sense that it was indeed a creative and alternative storyline, but not so much as in terms of it being an outstanding movie in and by itself. The storyline here was a bit morbid, but not to the extend where it became too much. I guess it depends on what aspects of the movie you focus on here; the fact that the child was dead and had returned to "life" and needed blood to survive, or if you focused on the mother's gradual breakdown in psyche as her suffering went on."Grace" managed to stay morbid and dark without passing into an overly gore category or without it slipping into being such a disturbing movie that you will have nightmares. I was actually adequately entertained, although I found the movie to somewhat slow paced, which held back the movie. The movie has a relatively small cast, so there was additional pressure on the lead cast. But I will say that the actors and actresses in the movie were holding their own quite well and were doing good jobs with their given roles and characters. In particular Jordan Ladd in the lead role carried the movie quite well, and also Samantha Ferris although she only had a supporting part."Grace" is not your average horror movie. It is enjoyable and watchable for sure, just be prepared for a somewhat prolonged and dragged out storytelling. And that is the reason why I am rating it a mediocre 5 out of 10 stars.

Although I've checked the spoilers box, I'll try and spare you a synopsis--plenty of these reviews have already provided that quite well. My main reason for giving this movie a mediocre rating is that there is so much that's unexplained, or explained illogically. A few of these are: 1. It's obvious that Madeline and her midwife were once romantically involved. This begs the question of why Madeline would choose to use the midwife's services, or why the midwife would find it a professionally good idea to provide medical care to Madeline and her unborn infant. 2. Building on 1 (and the end of the film), why is Madeline married if she's in love with her midwife? There are tons of pro-whatever makes you happy/politically correct undertones, so why write a husband into the movie? Considering the success of artificial insemination, he seems unnecessary, and is in fact a bland (disposable) character. 3. Why is there a mother-in-law in the film? Granted, her freakish need to suddenly become a mother after her son dies adds to this carnival of nonsense, but overall seems to drag this movie on longer than what's good for anyone. 4. What, precisely is Grace? Vampire? Zombie? 50/50 combination of both? Neither? 5. What prompts Madeline's obsessive need to provide blood for her rotten spawn? There's not enough backstory to make her "motherly love trumps all that is good/logical/pure" hold much weight. Learning that Madeline had miscarried before, suffered an infant crib death, etc. would have made her devotion to Grace believable, if not acceptable. 6. The end seemed weak, though I can't honestly think of how it could've been made better. Felt as though it were left open for a sequel, which hasn't so far appeared--thank goodness. Not the worse movie I've seen, but definitely not the best. There was a lot of potential with this one, but it fell short.

It's always so disappointing when movies like this crap fools the consumer to buy the movie that has a DVD Cover with something interesting-looking on it's front side. But i shouldn't be too surprised after all. Already from the beginning the movie turned out to be a real strange piece of work from the director side. I first reacted on the b*****g attitude the mother had - and as for all these kind of movies; they always shall be some kind of rebels and ignore serious facts and stick to their own lines. Even if it matters others life and health. She insists on calling her "doctor" when the baby start drinking blood. She not even call the emergency number when the baby gets bad and ugly reactions on her skin. And why on earth do you feed your baby with fresh blood from meat packages, directly brought from the store!? Why not get the hell to the phone and call the REAL doctors? Well of course not, "we shall just feed this 'thing' with little more blood, dam the blood is end, i need new bodies... and oh, yeah let her nag a bit on me, that will do her fine" "And because Im a sort of ultra - vegetarian, i DO NOT WANT TO HAVE ANYTHING WITH STATE FINANCIAL AND REGULAR HOSPITALS TO DO, THEY CAN (citate) 'FUCK YOURSELF'.Im so tired of that kind of rebelism personality, can't characters in horror movies, if just for once, have a SMART SCRIPT to follow - a script where they acting normally, like REGULAR folks does in these kind of situations!? Can't directors and writers of Horror movies these days just REALIZE that folks getting extremely enoyed when characters you're suppose to create some sort of relationship with through the movie, RUNNING AND B******G AROUND, if you want a movie with pure horror, then i suggest you to study how folks acting in different situations and crisis, even tho the plot is about something picked from the imaginary; mixing up realistic acting WILL BOOST THE MOVIE UP, you can TRUST ME on that!Thank you.PS. The animal film in the background; what was that all about?

'Grace' tells the tale of a grieving couple preparing for the birth of their first child. Ignoring the more standard (read as "proper" or "safe") methods, the couple decides to use an all-natural, Eastern-style midwife and doctor. After a fatal accident takes the life of the father of the child, Madeline is left to face the possibility of another lost child alone. Through a miracle, however, Grace is born. . . but this only begins Madeline's most terrifying troubles.Throughout the years, babies have been a cute & terrifying piece of many horror films. From Rosemary and her spawn to Yanka in 'Baby Blood,' babies (before & after birth) have wreaked havoc on horror film mothers. With 'Grace,' another nefarious newborn can be added to the list. While not as chilling and well made as, say, 'Rosemary's Baby,' 'Grace' is an extremely creepy and fascinating horror/thriller.Technically, the film is done very well. The script is quite good with quality dialogue and a steady (yet slow) pace. The acting, especially from Jordan Ladd and Samantha Ferris, works well enough. Paul Solet's direction captures the story and settings well, strongly transferring the script to screen. There were some flaws. I wasn't a fan of the attempts at "vegan shock" (i.e. the random videos of cows & pigs being slaughtered). . . though, they weren't nearly as disturbing as the random scene of old-people sex. Also, due to several lapses in subtlety, the secrets became apparent, even without knowing there was one.Overall, this won't be considered the best of the baby horror subgenre, but it can definitely stand strong against them as a strange & creepy modern horror.Final Verdict: 7/10.-AP3-
