I'll Get By
I'll Get By
I'll Get By is an updated remake of the 1940 20th Century-Fox musical Tin Pan Alley. William Lundigan and Dennis Day play William Spencer and Freddie Lee respectively, successful song publishers who make hits out of such numbers as "I Got a Gal in Kalamazoo", "Deep in the Heart of Texas", "You Make Me Feel So Young", "There Will Never Be Another You", and other favorites (the rights to all of these songs were conveniently held by 20th Century-Fox). The partnership has some hard times, especially during the feud between ASCAP and the radio networks, when only public-domain songs like "I Dream of Jeannie" were permitted to be broadcast.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

This movie has received a lot of flak especially from Stallone himself. Being quoted as saying he regretted doing this movie the most out of any movie in his career. That hurts me because this is one of my favorite movies of all time. What action packed star could pull this off now? The Rock? Jason Statham? I don't think so. I think Stallone is actually a very good comedic actor. You should also check out 'Oscar' with him staring in it. Very funny as well. And sure he is not going to win any Grammy's for singing but he is still pretty good. This movie is actually hilarious and I've never seen as much chemistry in a movie than I have seeing Dolly and Stallone work together. You can tell they are having fun. The humor can be subtle at times but make sure you really listen or you'll miss it. Like Stallone's excellent advice , "do you think sushi is all that good for you? That raw fish. Its like me going into a paddock and chewing on a cow!' Well that's not the exact line but you get the idea. And the songs are excellent I'm not a country and western fan but the songs are really catchy and memorable.I could go on but just get off your high horse and enjoy a silly ROM-com that's funny, sweet, entertaining with Stallone rocking it with Dolly Parton!!

This is a cute and funny musical comedy. Basically Jake (played by Dolly) is trying to turn Nick (played by Sylvester) into a country-western singer and star. Nick is not a great singer - in fact he starts out terrible - but Jake does manage to turn Nick into a fairly decent singer. For me, the most memorable and funniest part of the whole movie was watching and listening to Nick (Sly Stallone) sing 'Drinkenstein'. I actually find myself giggling over this song and movie scene - it's that funny. And it proves to me that our own Sly Stallone does in fact have a wonderful sense of humor. If you liked "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" or "Nine to Five" then you might like the film "Rhinestone".6.5/10

I was 9 years old when this movie came out and I saw it then and have seen it HUNDREDS of times(literally!!!)since. I'm watching it right now even with my two daughters and my 3 step kids. When my sisters and I were growing up we had the VHS tape and would watch it over and over and over again. We LOVE it!! It is hilarious!!!!! I agree with all the posts on here that gave the movie good reviews. It's not a movie with hidden meaning or to be taken too seriously. Just prop your feet up, relax, grab a cold one and crack up laughing. That's all you need to do! It's very entertaining fun! And my sisters and I quote the movie constantly. We have the whole movie memorized and LOVE to quote it! I highly recommend seeing it.

This was on TV the other day. I always love a Pygmalion plot, but getting from here to there was kind of painful. I love Dolly Parton's voice, her appearance and whom she is as a person: SO pretty, so sweet and kind! I could listen to her sing forever! But an actress, she's not! Stallone seemed to be trying to be clever and funny, but he was just so goofy that I found him annoying. Maybe the problem was in the way the character was written? – but no – his facial expressions, his voice, his manner – they were all phony – and when he first showed Dolly how he "sings," it was so loud, unrealistic and silly, I felt embarrassed for him. The plot is contrived, and I kept saying to myself, "Well, they had to do THIS with the plot so THAT funny thing could happen." And Dolly's character, well, she's just Dolly playing a character in a movie. Again, the contrived plot makes her character do unnatural and inconsistent things. I was saying to myself, "Oh no, why are you doing THAT?!" all the time! Well, it IS a "feel good" movie, but in order to "feel good," you must be able to ignore the badly managed plot, poorly depicted characters and silly "acting."
