Absolutely the worst movie.
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
I loved this movie. It kept me intrigued the whole entire time and the acting was great. I think you should watch it but if you're a horror fan that enjoy a whole lot of gore then this isn't the movie for you. It may have not had gore but thats not what a makes a movie great. I really felt for Emma throughout the movie and could not imagine me being in her same situation. If you're not sure whether or not to watch this movie then I suggest you to watch it. I'm pretty sure you will enjoy it, or maybe just be bored, i'm not sure, it depends on what type of movies you like. All in all I loved this movie. This movie does not deserve the low rating it has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is a horror movie that seems to take a little something from every scary movie that was a hit in the last ten years. The Ring, Skeleton Key, Sixth Sense, Hide and Seek--you could play spot the influence with pretty much every scene in this one. Realizing early on how derivative this one was going to be, I really didn't want to like it.But by the end, I had to give this one some credit. It does a couple things different. I thought the way the story ended wasn't totally predictable (it ended up reminding me a little bit of an older movie called "Haunts"--that's a spoiler for any of you who know that one). The story follows a young girl, Emma, who moves into an old house with her family and begins to see the ghost of the dead twin sister she didn't know she had. The ghost doesn't do much at first, watching from out in the yard, but the danger escalates until Emma is afraid to leave the house. And yet, she is not safe inside, either, because the movie is called "The Attic," so they had to put some stuff up there, too. Everyone around her thinks she is crazy, so be ready to put up with 90 minutes of paranoia. The only one who wants to help her is the young, handsome small-town cop with the nasally voice and poofy hair that our heroine will slowly develop feelings for.I thought everyone in this movie was terribly miscast. I understand it was probably a small budget production, which usually means a lower caliber of acting, but these people were ugly, too. I'll give an example, with a very specific SPOILER included: at the end of the movie, when a new family moves into the house, we see another young girl for whom the cycle will surely begin anew. This girl was much more attractive than the slimy-looking lead--why didn't they cast the 2nd girl as the star? Maybe they cast the actress who did play Emma because she was so freaky-looking that they didn't need much makeup for the scenes in which she played the ghost-twin. She definitely belongs in a horror movie, but not as a sympathetic character--she naturally looks evil.I can't really give a good reason why I didn't totally hate this movie--it's just one of those instances when you end up liking something even though it has ingredients that usually don't work. When I saw what happened to the family, I guess it felt like it was a slightly original way to bring a resolution, but it was still fairly silly overall. If you aren't totally sick of seeing pale girl ghosts with stringy hair who move around like they're in a Nine Inch Nails stop-motion animated video, than you may be into this one. If you don't usually like cheap, amateur, b-movie trash, don't bother.
The basic plot for the story is that a teenage girl keep's seeing a different girl who looks exactly like her in the mirror, she goes crazy and everyone think's she's lieing. That is the most unoriginal story I have ever heard. Okay, I'll be fair, it's not the worst movie ever, but..the writing was so lousy and lazy it was unbelievable. The acting was just terrible and Elizabeth Moss looked just stupid she was so bad. If you want to see a good horror movie, don't watch this. This movie disappointed me so much. The shame is, is that, yeah, the story is unoriginal and plain but, if the writers had developed more on the story and planned a little bit more then maybe I would of given the movie a 4 or 5 out of 10. If the writers had planned the characters and really thought out the movie rather than just writing down whatever popped into there head, the movie might of worked a little bit more than it did.I'm rating this two, as the camera work and direction was, err..okay, for the budget they were on ($7000).PS - About half an hour into the movie, her older brother who has the mind of a child, mentions that his sister keeps a diary. Now, this is when you start thinking, hmm...maybe the story and the characters will unfold within this diary and think it's going to get a bit more interesting, but the diary is never mentioned or shown again in the whole movie!!! Also, As for the scene were the girl makes a move on her own father just puzzled me! In fact, the only thing that actually unfolds the characters throughout the movie is the fact her mother and father turn out to be raging lunatics who use witchcraft.Bad, Very bad movie! 2/10.
When I was a child I was always afraid of my attic, because it was small, desolate and dark. I guess what the director was trying to portray is their own fear of the attic, but instead what we get is an almost comical tale of insanity.Emma and her family move into a new house, and almost immediately she's threatened with visions of a girl who looks like her...after...of course...going into the attic. As she delves more into what she things are delusions, she keeps getting spooked and knocked out, only to awaken to see the dreamy eyes of the local paramedic, who is also a detective, who uncovers an unsettling truth about her family that her parents kept hidden from her.As the visions become deadly, Emma soon comes to a terrifying conclusion...the spirit in the house is out to kill her! Oh no! Run out of the house immediately! Oh, wait, she doesn't want to leave. Of course she'd rather stick around and wait to see what happens. It's what everyone in her situation would do.And then we're left with the traditional 'twist ending' that pretty much any moviegoer would've predicted within the first half-hour. And then...mercifully...it ends.
