Drinking Buddies
Weekend trips, office parties, late night conversations, drinking on the job, marriage pressure, biological clocks, holding eye contact a second too long… you know what makes the line between “friends” and “more than friends” really blurry? Beer.

I really wanted to like this movie. I love the cast members and had high hopes but was sorely disappointed.
To rate this one star is seriously REACHING. I decided to watch because of the great cast and storyline. Well, was I ever disappointed. Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson act like immature children who shouldn't be in relationships to begin with. Anna Kendrick's character is obviously not a good match for Johnsons. BUT for some reason they stay together? It's an unrealistic view of relationships. At least, no relationship I'd like to be involved in. I'm a young, married person. I find the fact that not ONE person in this movie was able to stay loyal, quite disgusting and disappointing. I understand wanting to have fun and drink, but this is extreme. Wilde and Johnson are both alcoholics. The ending is one of the worst I've seen. SPOILER ALERT: It doesn't seem like Wilde and Johnson end up together, but really, we have no idea. It's left to interpretation, which can end up being intriguing (Inception) OR horrible - this film. Don't waste your time like I did.
Drinking BuddiesIt may resemble too much to the real world and still offer us enough reason to hang on to it as it is so perfectly written that its tone is surprisingly acceptable.
I found this movie on Netflix streaming movies. My wife chose to skip it, I think she made a mistake. It is a very pleasant relationship movie. One of the reasons I enjoyed it is for the beer theme. Much of it is set inside a small brewery (filmed in Chicago) and many of the characters work there, making beer, drinking beer, and discussing life. The story focuses on two couples, Kate and Jake each work at the brewery, seem very compatible, are best friends because each already has a significant other. Jake is planning to eventually marry Jill, and Kate seems in love with Chris. When the four of them go away to a lake house on Lake Michigan for a weekend it seems that the guys are paired up with the wrong girls. But nothing sinister happens, it just opens eyes to other possibilities. Many who prefer action movies may not like this movie because not a lot happens, there are a number of conversations that go on a bit, but the script writing and the acting are first rate. It all comes over as very believable, that these could be real couples struggling with these real issues.Olivia Wilde is Kate, Jake Johnson is Luke, Anna Kendrick is Jill, and Ron Livingston in his typical understated style is Chris.
