I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Purely Joyful Movie!

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

Michael Jackson's Ghosts follows traveling maestro (played by Michael Jackson), who settles in an old haunted mansion on the outskirts of a small ordinary town. After one of the young children tells an adult of the tricks that the maestro has been playing, many people in the small town mob together to confront him, lead by a devious mayor. The mayor of the small town (also played by Michael) threatens him to leave and in exchange, the maestro decides to make this encounter a game, whoever gets scared first must leave. The maestro then summons the various ghosts that live in the mansion and puts on an elaborate show to scare the mayor away. The entire video lasts about 30-40 minutes and is one of the most spectacular short films I have ever seen. With fantastic choreography and music, awesome special effects, a unique and original concept, and great performances by the entire cast (most notably Michael, who truly shines as he plays multiple roles, all of which are very different from each other) this short film is a chilling yet fascinating viewing experience. I personally find it to be one of Michael's most overlooked short films (music videos). 10/10One question: "Are you scared yet?"

This seems to be a fitting descriptions for pretty much all the very long music videos by Michael Jackson. Regardless of what you may think of him as an artist, he just does not have it as an actor or as a writer. Jackson contributed a lot to the script here and Stephen king was in the boat as well, but if Martin Scorsese cannot get a great film out of the late Jackson, then neither can visual effects legend Stan Winston. It's basically all the same as always. Jackson is full of himself and has a screenplay that lets him appear like some sort of messiah for the entire thing and if he wasn't already enough in the main role, he basically plays everybody with a slight ounce of importance during these 40 minutes. The genre is also the same as always, supernatural, fantasy, science-fiction, horror etc. His music videos really all look the same sort-of. I am yet to see one that has a truly convincing story and does not get lost in a torrent of make-up, visual effects and general over-the-topness all over the place. And what's even worse is that in "Ghosts" from almost 20 years ago the music is not even particularly convincing. Not recommended.

From the three Michael Jackson related 'films' I have watched today (the others being "Thriller" and "Captain EO"), this contains the man's best acting and dancing.The concept is simple, but in a good way; children and adults find themselves in a ghostly, haunted manor house upon a dark evening. Their cynical Mayor takes against the house's proprietor, the Maestro (Michael Jackson). The Maestro summons up a horde of ghosts, in an attempt to both scare and entertain the assembled people. Predictably enough, the children love it and the Mayor hates it, berating the Maestro as a 'freak', who would be better off in the circus.There is some sense of Jackson playing on themes from "The Elephant Man", one of his favourite films - playing an outsider, hated by many in adult society. Magic and oddity are seen to win out, with the Mayor confounded at every turn and indeed inhabited by MJ's spirit at one point and even doing the Moonwalk in a memorably amusing sequence. The ghosts work well in tandem and individually - we are treated to Elizabethan ruff wearers, arch Gothic ladies and a rather sinister zombie-jester.The music contains some of the better 1990s Michael Jackson numbers: 'Is It Scary' and '2 Bad' are not classics but are well used; 'Ghosts' is a cracking song given its perfect visual accompaniment here. Some of the ghosts' dance routines are superbly realised, and it is notable just how at home Jackson is with these spectral figures around him. Compare with his uncomfortable attempt at R&B normality in the 'You Rock My World' video, where he achieved no chemistry whatsoever with the lady he is supposed to be romancing."Ghosts" truly shows a Michael Jackson in his element, a weird man in weird surroundings, putting on an unusually entertaining horror show.

This short video is simply excellent! It proves that Michael wasn't only a great singer and dancer but actor too. I don't think that Michael was trying for 'another' Thriller, the music and dance routine is very original and different. Personally, I like it more than Thriller, never get bored of watching it. It's scary, funny and fresh! I see a connection to his 1993 trial in it though. The mayor looks remarkably like the DA Sneddon and the whole plot sounds like Michael (the eccentric but harmless and funny ghost) defending himself from the vicious prosecutor. He did a great job indeed! Michael was very innovative and was always trying for something new, perhaps even trying to undo himself. He was simply the best entertainer of all times! This short video is a gem.
