For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Admirable film.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Nazi gold salvage action film with a trace of tongue-in-cheek humour. Navy SEALs on enforced leave try to salvage $300m of gold at the bottom of a Bosnian lake. The story is far-fetched, with plenty of macho idiocy, hammy lines, jerkily directed and overblown action sequences rushed to their conclusion. Its jingoism even stretches to a baseless scene of British soldier bashing against the backdrop of the Bosnia War. The idea that a bunch of military personnel would go-for-broke, avail themselves of military equipment so easily, risk court martial let alone risk their own deaths to rescue a fortune, and all for the benefit of a local village girl, is plain ludicrous. All in all, it has a direction reminiscent of a TV movie and but for the regular distraction of Serbian warlords doing evil, and some good underwater film capture, it fails to capture the viewer's imagination.
Fake story, glorifing americans against Serbs (who even were not in Sarajevo), actors of Serbs are Croats???,.. French gold was sent to Germany, Germans were not stupid. Bad acting. Stoped waching at 10th minute. Not waste your time
Could have been just another movie requested by US army, to promote itself. And it would be ok, if the movie would be done right, but something went wrong... So the plot you know, nazis stole gold, hid it somewhere and now good old marines will save the day. And more or less, plot is kind of OK. Used in many movies... but why not. So idea was given to army and they approved it... But...then director and other crew had a long celebration of their success... when all alcohol was finished and they got more or less sobered up (doubting last one), they realized... they have 2 hours before they have shoot the movie... And they forgot to write actual scenario... So in first 1.5 hour, they managed to write first 15 minutes of movie time, the rest was written in 30 min. You think that's a very silly thought? Well watch this movie and you may think that apparently I got some inside information about the movie. So many holes, so poor scenario and characters. And all the time you will ask your self - WHY?! You will remember what I've written above..... and at least this will explain you something. You are welcomed.
The opening 10-15 minutes was mediocre at best with some "expendibles" type over the top action but from there on... highly boring and very frustrating.. I got to 58 minutes then I had to turn it offThe actors: terrible fake low budget acting from actors I've never seen or heard of, their one lines was cheesy and all in all not funny at allThe storyline: it goes from kidnapping some general to looking for buried treasure? Confusing much? Not convincing storyline with holes all over itThe taking the Micky out of the British (SAS) with the stereotype terribly put on British accents and their inability to "get the job done"? Hilarious.. but the best bit.. 2 drunk navy seals takes on 4 British SAS and puts all brits on their a**es? This was the best way to prevent any Brit to watch this rediculous film to the very end.. All in all... crap!
