When an overconfident teen alien gets behind the controls of a spaceship, he must attempt to abduct a slumbering farmer under the watchful eye of a critical instructor. But abducting humans requires precision and a gentle touch, and within a few missteps it's painfully clear why more humans don't go missing every year.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

***This review may contain spoilers*** This animation short film is unique because it is about aliens who practice how they kidnap humans. A newcomer alien tries to get a man out of house with a lot of handles in UFO, however, he is stressed by his boss's staring and he starts panicking. It is very different from other films with the concept about aliens try to take human away to their planet. I can sympathize with the young alien who is still learning how to use UFO, which is very relatable for me because we all can be like that when we are new to something, and not being good at them. It reminds me of training of part time job, because it sometimes can be gone wrong like this. The aliens are expressed very humanly. I have never seen aliens so likable and funny. I think this is a little bit related to Monster's Inc. which is one of the most famous works of Pixar. I like how they make scary creatures into loveable creatures. Also, I like the way they use the end credit to keep amusing audience. In this film, they use only the sounds to lead what happen at the ending during the end credits, which is very lovely idea.

This short animation by Pixar Studios recounts the training of an alien in abducting humans on earth. The young inexperienced alien is having quite a hard time figuring out all the tricks of the job. He indeed needs to figure out how to use a machine with more than a thousand buttons that look exactly the same in order to successfully lift the human target out from his window and into the spaceship. Though the trainee alien seems quite confident on his capacities to succeed his examination, it will not be without a couple of hardships along the way. I saw this short animation for the first time in the cinema when I was a child before the screening of a Pixar movie. I remember enjoying it then and my feelings have not changed a bit, I still laughed at every twists and turns. The film therefore does an amazing job in catching the attention of every age groups and making them laugh just the same, and doing so only through visual representations, as there are no dialogues. Even if the context is that of an alien passing a training exam, it is so easy to project oneself through him. The stress, the unflinching gaze of the examiner watching and judging every one of your move, the loss of confidence and failing every new attempt: all these characteristics are so relatable, and reminded me so much of my own traumatizing experience of the driving license exam. We therefore easily get attached to the trainee alien, but also to the examiner when we realize his "humanity" at the very end of the animation. Overall, a sweet and funny short animation which brightened my day.

A sleeping man is visited by aliens in a flying saucer. As the familiar scenes of alien abduction start playing out, it turns out that the abductors are experiencing certain technical difficulties. What is it that these nefarious aliens really want?Lifted is a very funny animated short that takes a familiar and clichéd story -alien abduction- and has fun with it. The comedy is mainly physical, taking the form of slapstick as the unfortunate sleeper is accidentally tossed around with the flying saucer's beam. Inside the saucer, we see the unprepared pilot wrestle with the saucer's impossibly complicated controls as well as with the unflinching gaze of his superior. The animation style of Lifted is not particularly distinctive, but works well. There is no spoken dialogue in the film, and as such everything is conveyed through action only.I thought that the concept of this short was pretty interesting, and that it had the potential to be transformed into a longer film. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be in the works.

Animation is my weakness. To me, it is easier to get envolved with the story when real people do not take part in it (acting). The story is simple; a young alien comes to Earth to take his "abduction exam", as if it was a "driver license exam", and things don't go very well during the exam. As many other PIXAR SHORT FILMS, the purpose of Lifted is to make the audience laugh. Well, I laughed.. And the nicest thing is that even though you can figure what is going to happen next during the whole time, you end up laughing. I may be terribly wrong, but my impression is that one of the reasons for such thing is the usage of sounds; every sound just fits perfectly with each scene.
