Strong and Moving!
Load of rubbish!!
Blistering performances.
I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
I found this film in a charity shop and forced my D&D group to watch it with some drinks. We had an absolute blast. An utterly horrendous movie, and yet we were pissing ourselves laughing the entire time.Would recommend this film be watched with a lot of alcohol and some good company, you won't regret it.
I agree with everybody: this movie was terrible. But it was so bad that I found it hilarious to watch for a while (I did not watch it to the end though). The acting of every actor in this crap-fest was unbelievably bad. How can this even be?Another thought: I ask myself who ran away with the 45 mio that were supposedly spent for making this movie. Yet another thought: really bad movies have at least one merit. They inspire the IMDb users to create very entertaining roastings. I am not a D&D-player, so I could not be disappointed. I understand that a fan might not see it so mellow.Unfortunately I have to write 10 lines though I have nothing to add. Well, the weather is beautiful.
I made this account specifically to review this movie. This is by an extremely wide margin the absolute worst movie I have EVER seen. I really didn't think it was possible to make a movie this horrible. I happened to come across it while surfing cable channels. It says the estimated budget was 45 million. There is absolutely no way even 1/8th of that money was used in the creation of this joke of a film. First of all, and most importantly, the special effects are some of the worst I've ever seen. That is pitiful with such a large budget. The acting not only is horrendous, but I believe even film students in college could do better. The horrendous dialogue is mostly due to the script. Also, the camera angles are absolutely horrible and the sets are very poorly made. It looks like an amateur shot this film. Even myself, a person with no camera training, could do a better job of creating movie-worthy camera angles. I am at a total loss trying to figure out how a movie with a 45 million dollar budget could be so poorly done. Oh...and the props are the worst I've ever seen in a movie. The weapons look like cheap plastic imitations. This film is a complete joke. If you want my opinion, it's so bad that it makes it appear as though the film makers pocketed the 45 million and didn't spend more than $5 on the movie. The ONLY reason I recommend watching this movie is because it will forever change your perception of what defines a bad movie, because if there was EVER a movie that deserved a 1/10 and the title of being horrendous and horrible, this is that movie. It is just plain sad. It's like they purposely attempted to make the absolute worst, unbelievably bad and fake looking (special effects and props) movie of all time. My words do not accurately describe how horrible every aspect of this movie is. Man oh man.....
I like the fantasy genre. I like the whole Dungeons & Dragons world. I even used the watch the cartoon as a kid in the 1980s. Although I never played the RPG, I used to be - and still am - an avid fan of the adventure gamebooks that you play with a couple of dice. So this is just the sort of film that should appeal.Unfortunately it turns out to be an absolutely appalling travesty of a movie and one of the worst ever made. Gone is any attempt to make a movie on a serious level. Instead, we have a semi-comic fantasy that contains a few recognisable elements from the genre - including a badly-animated CGI dragon - but feels like a student play in all other respects.Everything is bad about this film, and I mean EVERYTHING: the writing is horrible, the direction sub-par, the characterisation is nil, the costumes are eye-wateringly ridiculous and the special effects are anything but. Literally the only enjoyment I got from the whole thing were the cameos from Tom Baker and Richard O'Brien, two British cult favourites.Actually, I lie; I did get some fun from trying to figure out who the worst actor was on-screen. It's not Bruce Payne, whose B-movie villain duties come in handy, nor is it Jeremy Irons, who delivers a pantomime performance reminiscent of Alan Rickman's in ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES. It's not Marlon Wayans in another lame comedy relief part, nor is it Justin Whalin, as wooden as he is. No, it's a toss-up between Kristen Wilson, who's really bad as the elf, and Thora Birch as some kind of princess. In the end, Birch wins out; her acting really is that terrible. It's cringeworthy and embarrassing every time a sentence comes out of her mouth.Thankfully, I'd seen the even cheaper DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: WRATH OF THE DRAGON GOD, so I had some idea of the level of sheer awfulness I was about to witness. But forget going in to this and having a good time; it's not even so-bad-it's-good, it's just so-bad-it's-bad.
