I like the storyline of this show,it attract me so much
This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
Such a frustrating disappointment
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
These are 3 descriptive words that I'd say would best describe the production side of this 1940, Technicolour, Romeo & Juliet story - Erratic - Uneven - Disjointed. And the reason for this film's overall visual inconsistency and instability has to do with the fact that it took 6 directors (Yes - 6!!) to finally bring "Bagdad" to its corny-but-cute "happy ending".As the story goes - It was skinflint, Alexander Korda who produced this picture. And he was totally obsessed with keeping this fantasy-extravaganza film under a tight budget and remaining in full control of its simpering story-line.This, of course, placed Korda in repeated conflict with each subsequent film-maker who took over the direction and, in turn, who Korda promptly fired for non-compliance.Anyway - With "The Thief Of Bagdad" now being 77 years old - I really did try to cut it some slack (even though its visuals didn't even come close to those of 1939's "The Wizard of Oz") - But - The truth is - This picture really did stink, big-time.*Note* - I'd say that the absolute, most hilarious highlight of this picture was the totally cheesy "monster spider" scene.
Tales of One Thousand and One Nights. The world is simply magical. I could not say that the movie THE THIEF OF BAGDAD magical. In the year of his production is special. Group director is based on the story of the legendary Queen Scheherazade made one nice movie. A pleasant world with a somewhat special effects and "blue screen" certainly attracts attention. The artistic touch of director Michael Powell is visible. The film is certainly not bad, of course, is not cheap. Arabian Nights may not look cheap. The atmosphere is good. The acting is solid. This is a remake of a silent film of the same name. Because innovation Rosza did a great soundtrack.Given the background story can not be that bad. The effects of the target alternate. Flying Carpet would be the highlight. Sabu (Abu) and Conrad Veidt (Jaffar) They have left their mark. I do not think solely on acting but the characterization of their characters. Romance in the film, was pale. It is not derived as a result of worse acting. Simply, It did not give enough attention. The Thief of Bagdad is just a nice movie.
Special cast. Great special effects. And a remarkable show. In few words - a real delight. For the science to give the spirit of Arabian Nights. For unique Sabu. For the chemistry between characters. For support in Oriental dreams. For sent the flavor of art to tell unforgettable tale. For magic in pure form. For remember old plays and spectacular fights. For lost heroes with brave heard and loyal friend. For a Bagdad behind Saddam, wars and terrorism. And for fabulous Rex Ingram, a genie without any comparison. Childish, heroic, nice, at few new view it is an event. For soul and imagination. And special effects, o la la ! In the age of 3 D , after adventure of Star War, The Thief of Bagdad is the best. Joy in pure form, it is one movie who must see you.
Co-directed by Ludwig Berger, Michael Powell and Tim Whelen (along with three uncredited co-workers, Alexander Korda, Zoltan Korda and William Cameron Menzies), this lavish fantasy-adventure tells the tale of blind beggar Ahmad (John Justin), who spins a yarn about his life as king before the evil current king Jafar (Conrad Veidt), usurped his place and left him desolate. The story is told in flash backs, and follows his story beginning with his incarceration by jafar, where he meets Abu (Sabu). They escape and go on a quest to regain Ahmad's' rightful place as king.Filmed in technicolor, the sumptuous visuals are exacerbated by the stark, beautiful colours. It has been hailed by the likes of Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola as a masterpiece. It is a very beautiful fantasy. It reminded me of a contemporary travelogue, that shows its mystical, exotic landscapes for an untraveled spectator - although, this is clearly fantasy environments, and was not filmed on any locations except for sets. It also reminded me of the fantasy films of my childhood such as the Sinbad and Jason and the Argonauts adventures, sans Harryhausens fantastic monsters. The simple tale of redemption and fundamental achievement against evil is a story over told. However, with the cinematography and set pieces, this film is pure unadulterated delight. It genuinely is the perfect Sunday afternoon movie. (Although John Justin's diction and general performance does begin to grate).www.the-wrath-of-blog.blogspot.com
