good back-story, and good acting
Best movie of this year hands down!
Beautiful, moving film.
The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
I have only seen a few minutes of the original 1995 "The Net" movie, so I can't fairly say whether this direct to DVD sequel is better or worse than the original. I can only judge it on its own terms, and with that way this ends up being a pretty poor effort. I admit that the Turkish settings occasionally give the movie a fairly colourful backdrop, but all the same more often than not the movie has a really cheap feeling. The movie possibly could have succeeded despite that shortcoming, but the direction and the script work together to sink the entire enterprise. The movie feels sluggish and slow - it takes forever for the movie to really get going, and even when it does, there is no bite to any scene. No tension or excitement, even during the (poorly directed) action sequences. But even worse than the weak direction is the screenplay. Even if you are not an expert on computers and the Internet, there are many scenes with technology that are so obviously improbable that you'll groan out loud. The heroine also commits a lot of non-technological actions that are just as stupid. In the end, the only real interest the movie has apart from its colorful backdrop is bringing up the question as to why it managed to get an "R" rating from the MPAA; the content of the movie deserves a PG-13 at most.
This film was just plain awful, if you want to waste your time watching it, please wait until it airs on public TV and don't waste you money on a rental. While I cannot very well discredit a movie and rate it so low without an explanation, lets sum it up per the following:1. C-grade acting. Yes people, this is actually below a B-grade film in my book. 2. Terrible script/premise. Watch it and you will see, almost everything that happens is beyond stupid and highly improbable.I think the script is was really killed it for me, but you'll have to judge for yourself as I don't want to include any spoilers (you can glean them yourself from other users' comments. Good luck if you see this one, but save your money! You've been warned.
The chick playing the main character is no Angela Bennett, I'll give you that (this is not a spoiler :D), but she isn't bad looking. She looks different throughout the movie, but all in all she isn't very convincing. At first I thought that it's gonna be an action movie with complex intrigue and stuff in exotic countries but the downside was that they had 90% Turkish actors, the English actors kid of underground, therefore...B movie (or maybe C?); American producer throwing 15k $ (not Turkish lira)on a documentary action feature with an American confused tour guide. If it's pouring and the cable is out...see it ...ON VIDEO.
The dot com bubble burst for this one. What a waste of time and money. If I churned out rubbish like this in my job, my career would be over. The Net 2.0 was a waste of the electrons required to run my DVD player and remote control. After about half-an-hour, I ended up scanning through this movie(!) at 40x speed just to get it over with. The story was in-line with the acting, effects, and cinematography, i.e. very poor indeed. Now don't get me wrong, you may be thinking that there was nothing at all about The Net 2.0 that has any merit, and you would be right, so, DON'T get me wrong, it is a truly awful movie. In my opinion the DVD case is worth more than the DVD and it's contents. Breaking the DVD into itsy bitsy pieces would be an improvement.
