There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

Cliché ridden, ridiculous plot. The usual females blundering into stupid situations and have to be rescued by the hero from the usual serial killer/terrorist/bank robber*. Plenty of explosions, with not even sardonic humour to lighten the load.*Delete as necessary. It happened to be on when I was doing something else, so I'm glad I didn't actually have to pay to see it.It rates even lower than Columbo as optical chewing gum (and that's being unfair to Columbo), so if you've literally got nothing else to do, with not even a root canal in the offing, maybe watch it.

Director Robert Kurtzman's first foray into the action/thriller genre certainly won't be his last. While I have always enjoyed Kurtzman's horror flicks and magnificent special and make-up effects, I was anxiously awaiting his directorial debut into another type of film. I was not disappointed, as "Deadly Impact" is a solid thriller. Joe Pantoliano plays an assassin who is wreaking havoc on his victims, and Sean Patrick Flannery plays a cop on the team assigned to stop him. As Flannery's character gets closer to finding the assassin, he becomes the object of the assassin's wrath and the cat-and-mouse game begins. The two characters try to outwit and out-think each other up, right up until the very end. Be sure to grab this on DVD for an entertaining movie night.

OK, the opening action sequence...His wife is taped to a pole in a basement somewhere, surrounded by dynamite. OK, got it. They can't approach her or leave the basement or risk blowing up. Got it. The switch to shut off the dynamite is a glass vial taped to her chest. I rewound to make sure it was taped, and not implanted in some way. OK, so the bad guy says to disarm the room, the vial must be broken and somehow the only way to break the vial, at least in Alexander Vesha's mind is to shoot the woman. Why can't an object be thrown at the woman? What a hero this dude could have been. plays out something like....' Now honey, I need you to sit up straight, arch your back, close your eyes and keep completely still. The little heart on your chest? I need you to point it right at me. Then take off a shoe and hurl it at her. Break the vial and all is well. Better yet, most of the cops had helmets on. Throw one of those, or tie two together with show laces, effectively creating a ball and throw that. Hollywood, or in this case, Columbus Ohio, is fresh out of creative solutions.

This movie is the Fast and Furious of non-stop fast flowing action. Sean Patrick Flanery (Boondock Saints)and Joe Pantoliano (Sopranos) are pitted against each other in a wild blow-em up roller coaster of a ride. The director ( Robert Kurtzman) adds a little spice with hottie Carmen Serano as an FBI agent. Kurtzman gets all that he can get out of the actors and then some. The music is awesome as well as the special effects. THUMBS UP!!!!!!!! From start to finish I was at the edge of my seat. If I was to compare it to another movie (Speed) comes to mind as it's all that and more. You'll have to watch this without blinking your eyes.
