You won't be disappointed!
Absolutely the worst movie.
Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
I watched this movie thinking "typical Disney" but was very pleasantly surprised. Not only did it feature future star Katherine Heigl, incredible acting, a great storyline, and several important moral lessons for kids, but I was amazed at how much the plot matched my own two daughters, one of whom is the super popular Alexia (Heigl) and the other who mirrors the brainy yet nerdy Haley (Katherine Harris). I had them and my two boys watch it with me, and it really kept their interest and gave them a lot to think about after wards. This is a story of wanting to be like somebody else, envying them, and then learning what it would really be like in someone else's shoes. The popular and pretty Alexia and the nerdy yet brainy Haley must trade places (aka Vice-Versa, Freaky Friday) and in the end shows how their relationship is strengthened by really understanding each other. The acting of Heigl and Harris is superb, as their rivalry and reconciliation require a real chemistry to exist between them which you can see clearly underlying the acting. Overall a superb family film, my favorite Disney movie of its type, and it's cult classic status is well deserved. I gave it 10 stars. There were only two minor defects I found in the movie, which almost degraded my rating to a 7 or 8, but in the end I dismissed them as too unimportant to spoil a perfect rating for such a superb family movie. The first was the casting. Harris, the younger sister, was actually 1.5 years older than Heigl, and it did show. But this can be forgiven because it must have been hard to cast a younger sister for a 14 yo Heigl, who was bound to be Alexia in spite of her age simply because she was so pretty and had the right look. The other defect, which somewhat shocked me because it was Disney, was how revealing the outfits worn by Alexia were, and how sexually suggestive some of the scenes were. One actually shows her getting dressed, and all of her skirts are so short they are like belts. I actually got embarrassed, especially when I look over and see my two boys (12yo and 11yo) with their mouths hanging open practically drooling! I have never seen anything like this in any Disney movie, but in the end I did not lower my rating because Heigl literally had a body to die for then, so how could I blame them? lol
Wish Upon a Star (1996) Katherine Heigl, Danielle Harris, Don Jeffcoat, Scott Wilkinson, Mary Parker Williams, D: Blair Treu. Two backbiting sisters and complete opposites-one the popular and glamorous ditz, the other an ugly duckling wiz-wish under a shooting star to change places, but looks like the switch will take longer to revert back. This cable movie has no surprises and just pales in comparison with its maker, FREAKY FRIDAY, but there's still some fun riding on it. Running Time: 90 minutes and rated PG for some language and mild sensuality. **
Be careful what you wish for; it just might come true. And in this movie it all does. A wonderfully entertaining movie and not just for kids. I first saw this movie when I was 18 and have loved it ever since. Not just a story about what it's like to wish you were someone else and find that once it comes true it's not all it's cracked up to be. It's also a tale about two sisters who learn not just about themselves but also about each other. For anyone who has a sibling they feel they can't relate to, this movie is a wonderful chance to see that it doesn't necessarily have to be that way. And while there are moments in the film where it seems hard to remember who's in which body or you realize that that person is not necessarily the one who needed to learn that particular lesson, the film's overall message is touching enough and so masterfully delivered that it hardly matters. And though the twist ending may not be a surprise to all, it still gets me every time. Katherine Heigl and Danielle Harris shine like stars. I just wish everyone enjoys the film as much as I did.
