Why so much hype?
After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Unlikable VP Bentley (Rick Fox) is in Baton Rogue because...I'm not sure. While he is there a zombie outbreak happens and a SEAL Team is sent in.The film concentrates on two characters: AJ (Damon Lipari) a baby SEAL who doesn't get clubbed and reporter Amanda (Stephanie Honoré).The zombies were fast moving and the incubation period for infection varied from very short to long. The SEAL operation was bogus as they sent SEALs into an area with no information as to what was happening. They jumped into the area when they would have taken their own helicopter with a back up. The film apparently had to be filmed in one day as the day/night scenes happened haphazardly, changing at random like an ED Wood film. There was zero continuity. The zombies were not convincing and the support cast couldn't act.Wait until it's a cheap rental.Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.
-zombie, "hey let's drag this cop in front so the dashcam can see us eat him." -cringe acting -why do the politicians look like they came from goodwill on suit special day -navy seal guy, "hey let me drag these video feeds from this screen to the exact same looking screen so you can see it better"
Having sat through so many true amateur productions that actually deserve their -1 ratings, I will give this a solid 5 in context of it being a direct to video production. This had some name actors in it (while 3 anyways...) and it least it had professional production values. Money was spent on set, props and military co-operation. Yes, the script was likely written in a day, and some plot devices served no purpose whatsoever (like the reporter and her video camera) and there were some glaring holes as well but that is the way things go with these types of movies.Anyone with a military background will of course spot tons of mistakes. I have learned to set that aside when watching B movies particularly in the action/sci-fi/zombie genres. Its better then its current 3.9 IMDb rating, but not worth much more then the 5 I gave it.IF you need to kill some time its watchable, and possibly bearable....
THe copy I am watching is titles Navy Seals: Battle for New Orleans. It takes place in Baton ROuge...What? Did no one think to look that up?The editing and continuity people should never be hired for anything over a pre-school production. From the muzzle fire to explosions to bullet hits, they are all completely sad. They show a car window being smashed out and later, that same window was in tact. The cast...Fat Seals? Really? Couldn't you get people who looked the part? They didn't even shoot realistically. Since when can you let off 3 round bursts without the gun moving at all? My God, even Ed Quinn seemed lost in this dung-heap of a movie. After all, there is only so much you can do with a badly written and directed script.Unless you want to punish yourself or have really bad vision and hearing, I can't recommend this movie to anyone...ever.
