Let's be realistic.
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
I Loved It But Wish They Used The Abrams I'm Trying To Find A Good Desert Storm, Operation Desert Shield Movie. It Was Biggest Ground And Air Armor Invasion. A10 in the air, armor on ground.
I laughed a few minutes into this movie. I deployed there almost a year after this movie was set. They had blast protectors all around the turrets of the M1026s which were not even uparmored M1114s. Get your stuff right man. I was happy to see the uniforms were good but nothing else to include close air support near a mosque.
This film tells the story of a young soldier in Kuwait, who is reluctantly being sent to Iraq to help fix the water supply system in a village. However, their help is not welcomed by the village, and they are mey with multiple hostile attacks."Sand Castle" has a simple but effective plot, where the soldiers have to do everything in their power to fix the water supply that got broken in the war. A seemingly simple task becomes very complicated when the locals are actively resisting and even sabotaging the operation. It can be plainly seen that, what seems to be a good will mission from one side is interpreted as an unwelcomed act by the other side. I think this unwelcomed good will mission can be extrapolated to the whole war, and this particular mission is a microcosm of the whole Iraq war. It leaves soldiers wounded physically and psychologically, especially when soldiers think they are doing good.
I really liked the idea of this film. Unfortunately as soon as I saw a Sergeant Major with a pot belly, long hair and a stupidly long moustache I switched off. Genuinely I turned it off. It took me a fortnight before I'd give it another go. However I'm pleased I did. Once I ignored the detail and just accepted the plot I really enjoyed it.It annoys me that someone would go to the effort of making a film and ignore really simple military detail that massively detracts from the film. And I'm not talking about military detail that is really obscure but, come on, even as a Brit I know there is no way on earth the US military would allow a Sergeant Major to look like he does in this. What could have been an excellent film with a really good message ruined by someone not wanting to cut their hair to play a part.
