That was an excellent one.
Best movie of this year hands down!
Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
I skipped supernatural for this? It's extremely cliché and Wrong turn was better. When they lady got decapitated the graphics were terrible. If you expect anyone to still be pregnant after all that? Then there's seriously something wrong. Someone who was pregnant and then went into a situation like that would have lost it. Then the ending? Really!?! I'm sure Deacon is dead and wouldn't come back so the double sided sickle wouldn't have appeared. I really hope there isn't a sequel! Especially after the disaster of a movie this was! You could tell that when Micheal was being punched for using foul language that it was faked. Especially when the camera angle was turned to face them as a side view and you couldn't see the guys fist connect with the others face. There were no bruises or marks showing he was punched.
"Timber Falls" is like a "Saw" movie without the charm. There are a handful of good things in this tiresome gore-fest, but nothing that can't be traced to older, better movies--well, nothing except the wonderful Beth Broderick, who is so transcendentally good here she might be playing Lady Macbeth inside "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 14". (The person connected with this film who seems most deserving of torture is the agent who persuaded her to sign on. Is this all she's offered these days?) It's been, what, forty years since "Deliverance"--hasn't the evil-hillbillies-attacking-pampered-city-folk plot line had its day? And is it some kind of law that the protagonists of every horror thriller need to make increasingly stupid decisions that make the audience hate them? The female lead here is required to trip and fall TWICE while fleeing her attacker (each time taking about twenty minutes to gather herself together again); the only fresh twist is that the male lead is even more stupid (he trips too, and also backs right into a bear trap.) Once captured, this unappealing couple does nothing but scream and beg for over an hour while the religious-fanatic villains subject them to witless, boring ordeals. If we cared about the leads, or if they were resourceful enough to try some psychological wit-matching (at least), there might be genuine suspense. As it is, there's nothing to look forward to but more and more (fake-looking) gore, topped by an ending that doesn't try for cleverness or plausibility. (If you can't have one, you need the other badly).
I am a pretty picky Horror movie fan and I gotta say, I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. Original enough of a storyline (for this type of West Virgia "backwoods" style movie) Twists, turns, and just enough gore to appease the gore hound in me. If you like hills have eyes, river runs red, wrong turn or any like style movie, you are sure to enjoy this one. The cast and characters are believable enough to make this movie work. I saw some pretty nasty reviews about this movie and I don't know why. It wasn't like Staunton Hill where you had to wait for a week and a half for something to happen. I would rate it a 8.5/10
My comment towards this movie is that it was plain OBVIOUS! n a middle class film. I have great taste when it comes to horror movies but this was a huge mistake. I mean let me put it like this y does it always HAVE TO HAVE A SEX SCENE! N Y DO THE HEROES SURVIVE OR EVEN THE VILLAIN I MEAN THE HERO GOT BEAT UP PRETTY BAD N THE AMOUNT OF BLOOD HE SHED WAS ENOUGH TO GIVE TO THE NHS! They were interrupted the 1st time while having sex then what made it that certain that they weren't going to again was the girl that horny that she didn't learn the 1st time. The only bit I LOVED was the torture n the surprise of a 8 week pregnancy even doe they could have twisted things around by making either the hero die at the end or the girl only survives or they both die and the baby's born. There are so many lame scenes n there's simply no twist i would prefer watching resident evil 1,2,3,4, misery, or better yet THE REEKER now that's a film u must c. So all u horror fanatics who love a good story don't watch this movie and make the same mistake i did watch something else like Friday the 13th that will really blow your mind this is a film for those who love a good fairy tale but u could watch it n find out about how much i am right in this category, no hard feelings to those who disagree with me ;) its just not a scary twisted film as i expected
