The Age of Commercialism
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
In Purgatory demons and angels fight each other over souls. Sort of like "Blade Runner" meets "The Prophecy". I just have a few questions:1. The introductory captions state quite clearly that only one angel and one demon is allowed per cycle. And yet nearly all of the 14 demons and angels are present in Purgatory.2. Only one demon and one angel allowed? Let's say that was the case: does that mean there are actual rules to this tug-of-war game between the Horned One and God? If there are, then there must be a referee to enforce them. This begs the question: who is it?3. What are young kids doing in Purgatory? If humans don't hold children legally accountable for crimes why does God punish them for sins? What did they do: steal milk? Hit a friend on the head? Use "nya-nya-nyanya-nya" to taunt their friends in playgrounds?4. If you find yourself in Purgatory, surely you'd be HEAVILY inclined and motivated to be good - coz you found evidence of afterlife hence why would evil reign in the city? Shouldn't EVERY lost purgatorian soul be vying to get into the shiny place rather than the fiery place?5. Guns in Purgatory? Really? Now, how the hell did humans manage to smuggle guns into that place? Oh right... the Devil. He is the arms dealer probably.6. How can civilians be killed in Purgatory? Aren't they already dead and awaiting some heavenly tribunal or something to decide whether they go up or down? Where do they go next, another Purgatory?7. What a weird plot-twist: angel Michael had become the leader of Hell's minions. Not only that, but his identity wasn't known by God? Gabriel was sent to Purgatory WITHOUT knowing this crucial fact? So basically God doesn't even pay attention to what's going on in purgatory; I guess it's not a priority. Do Satan and God just send angels and demons and not check up whats going on there? At least occasionally?8. One would expect a female angel to be beautiful, but instead the pungent casting director gave us a nepotist, the irony being that even the demon blonde looks a lot better. Yes, on closer scrutiny nothing makes sense, but then again one is not supposed to let common sense get in the way of entertainment in those religious flicks. The plot moves quite slowly, this being a lengthy film, and the action scenes - whatever few there are - don't display much flash.
This movie lacked almost everything. First of all the cinematography was too irritating.. They have mixed the concepts of purgatory and real world.. Acting was too weak and the action was intolerable.. If you want to watch something resembling the concept of this movie then watch the TV Series "Supernatural" and decide for yourself.. I am sure you'll like it. As far as this movie is concerned, don't waste your time. There are not many nice movies about angels but this one wins the prize for worst. The costumes, makeup, scenery, story, acting, animation, action.. everything was too hard to bear.. As i have said before, if u want to watch something good on this concept then watch "Supernatural", specially 4th and 5th season.
I came to this because it was Australian, a first film and supposedly risky. It has been some time since a young Australian filmmaker has affected me, and I always put then toward the top of the list. This, dear friends is simply some yelling. It is no "Ink."But it got me wondering. Movies are all about satisfying urges. Well, everything is, but the tokens are explicitly here for you to see. But the constraints of the medium and market morph those urges. So what you see is not what you wanted, but what you can get. Over time, you build this dissonance because you live in the world created by constraints. Here is what I mean. We all wonder about how the world works. So we want cosmologies in our art, grand organizing principles. We want to know what the rules are. So we have stories with grand conspiracies, or mythical worlds with an order, usually bad and good. Or even just a guy with super powers or abilities who wins because he is attuned in a world where justice flows. But the medium has only a few human activities that are cinematic. One of these is fighting, especially with guns and knives. If you are making a movie on the cheap, you'll have to forgo the standard fireball explosions, usually with the hero walking away slowly. As a result, we end up with bizarre situations where cosmological forces are shoved into fight movies. This is not the worst example; I saw this with "TMNT," but it is pretty obvious because the movie itself is so unrewarding.Ted's Evaluation -- 1 of 3: You can find something better to do with this part of your life.
Trash. Totally a waste of money, effort and time...not my time and money, but those who produced the film, even those 150.000 dollars were too much for that rubbish.1. PURGATORY? There is no such thing...By the time a man dies, the verdict is there...It's either HEAVEN OR HELL, nothing in between.Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement2. Anything that comes from God CANNOT DIE...Angels cannot die...Demons cannot die...Satan cannot die...The soul of man cannot die...3. Michael is presented as being Lucifer 2.0 a new rebel...Michael is not such a fool... Michael still stands along with Gabriel and they are giving Devil hell!!!Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. (this is what have already happened)Apocalypse 12:7-9 7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (this will happen)4. Gabriel having sex??? What on earth were thinking those who did that film??? Preposterous, disgraceful and totally unacceptable!Luke 1:18-20 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years. 19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings. 20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.Oh, please try and provoke Gabriel.....The REAL ONE!!!5. Uriel? Rafael? Amatiel? and all other archangels? Where on earth did the find those? No references whatsoever of the names of other archangels apart from Michael and Gabriel are given in Bible. There are references in the book of Tobit about Rafael and in the book of Enoch about Uriel, but those books are not included in the Bible. I am not saying those angels don't exist, but only we have not proof they do.6. The power of angels is exhaustible? How come???7. Evil (even in disguise under rebellious Michael) can be stronger than Light? Do you know who the LIGHT is??? Jesus...John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.Wake up people...no one can defeat Jesus...it's just impossible!I could go forever with that film but I think I made my point clear.Save yourself time and don't watch that film. Feed a crocodile or something...it would be more edifying that watching the film!!John 1:5 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
